Midland Football League Division One - Wednesday 26th April 2017, 7:45 p.m. kick-off

Nuneaton Griff 0 (0) Bromsgrove Sporting 5 (2) at The Pingles Stadium

Bromsgrove Sporting's remarkable run continued with their 19th straight league win since the New Year against a plucky Nuneaton Griff side who sadly faded towards the end of the match writes Phil Baker.

Both teams looked to get an early lead with several promising moves. John Pykett producing the best for Sporting on the fifth minute but after sending over a neat cross nobody was available in front of the goal to nod it in.

Griff should have gone ahead three minutes later after forcing a corner. Tyson Knight took the place kick and after a bit of ping-pong, Ryan Millerchip's shot rattled off the right-hand post.

On thirty minutes Jason Cowley chased down Griff 'keeper George Westwood's clearance only to see the ricochet go agonising wide of the left-hand post. However three minutes later Sporting took the lead again thanks to Cowley who received Ahmed Ali's pass out right, moved in close then fired his shot over the head of Westwood that went in off the underside of the bar.

Lee Hewitt for the home side had the best chance for his side of the remainder of the half when Luke Edwards missed his tackle but the nippy striker's effort went over the bar from 20 yards out.

Cowley, always looking for an opportunity saw Westwood off his line on the 41st minute and made a lob from just over the halfway line but the 'keeper just managed to get a hand to the ball to push it out for a corner.

However with just another minute on the clock, Cowley got his second when he tapped in Pykett's cross leaving The Rouslers two up at half-time.

After the interval, Griff rallied forcing Luke Edwards to clear off the line what looked a certain goal on the 60th minute. Eight minutes later Sporting substitute Andy Nicol had a heavy clash with Westwood with the striker needing a few minutes of treatment before resuming. Westwood himself may have been lucky to avoid a card with his studs high up.

Griff by this time were beginning to tire and Sporting finished off the job late on with three more goals courtesy of Chrisi Conway on the 87th minute who slotted home Robbie Bunn's pass, Alfie Bloomer on 90 minutes with a classic route one goal that he stroked in from Steve Grogan's upfield punt and Conway again with one added minute showing.

So just one more match for Sporting to hopefully complete the rare feat of going the league season undefeated.
