LADIES

  • The Ladies were defeated 2-0 by league leaders Crusaders. Once again with a depleted side, ravaged by injuries, it was a very good performance, with a mix of development players in there. Bromsgrove played some decent football and whilst fitness was a major factor, all in all it was a genuinely good performance.
  • This Sunday, they face Hereford Pegasus at the UK Electrical Stadium (2:00 KO).

LADIES DEVELOPMENT

  • A thrilling encounter for the Development side ended in dramatic fashion on Sunday. On a crisp, sunny afternoon, the ladies faced Welland Ladies, in a highly anticipated league match, with both teams only separated in the league by goal difference. The game started in a brisk manner, with both teams battling to gain dominance, with chances generated by both teams and defences holding firm. In the 21st minute, Eleri drove through the Welland defence to clinically slot the ball past the keeper from a very tight angle into the bottom right corner of the net to make it 1-0. Bromsgrove remained on top for much of the first half, but they weren’t able to extend the lead. The second half started in a similar fashion, with both teams battling to retain possession and create attacks. In the 51st minute, Chloe received the ball at the edge of the Bromsgrove box, moved it up to the halfway line and fired a long range shot over the keeper to make it 2-0. This was her second goal of the season from long distance.. The ladies were comfortable on the ball and were passing well and creating opportunities. Unfortunately, a momentum swing occurred when a controversial goal was given to Welland, resulting in Sporting’s keeper being sent off for dissent. This meant that the Rouslers needed to reorganise the team, with Chloe taking up goalkeeping duties. A quick second goal for Welland followed, making it 2-2. The Ladies dug in and defended resolutely for the rest of the half, successfully fending off wave after wave of attacks. The teamwork, communication and commitment from every player on the pitch was outstanding whilst down to 10 players and the entertaining game ended 2-2. Both teams should be commended for playing the game in a friendly spirit. Bromsgrove’s Player of the Match was Eleri, who was a constant attacking threat throughout the match – her pace, energy and aerobatic agility were unmatched!. An excellent performance and all the team deserved the standout accolade this week, for the commitment shown and the battling character they displayed to hold the home side to a draw with 10 players for over 30 minutes.
  • This weekend, they face Evesham United Ladies at home.

VETERANS

  • The Veterans won 4-6 at Continental in the League – this Sunday, they’re at home to Trooper (10:30 KO).

GIRLS

  • Bromsgrove Sporting U10 Girls. They travelled away to face Newtown Sports in a thrilling encounter. Despite having limited players, the team displayed incredible determination and teamwork. The first half was an exciting, end-to-end contest, with the girls showcasing the skills they’ve been working on in training. Their passing and movement, and defensive resilience kept the game competitive throughout. In the second half, fatigue began to set in, but the girls showed remarkable passion and commitment to keep going despite their exhaustion. Their perseverance and teamwork were truly commendable – a fantastic effort from every player. Our next match is home to Nunnery Wood.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U13 Girls. They bounced back from defeat in style at the weekend, with a 3-2 win against Ashton 88. The girls were at it from the start and put a strong Ashton defence under pressure early on. A good corner caused the Ashton defence problems and Gracie was in the right place to put Sporting in the lead. Sporting continued to look for a second, but it was Ashton who managed a breakaway and, after a brilliant tackle by Esmee, the loose ball fell to an Ashton player to equalise right on the stroke of half time. The second half continued with Sporting pushing to get back in front, but again a break from Ashton saw a good save by Layla fall nicely for an Ashton player to put them in front. Undeterred, Sporting got back on the front foot and created a number of chances, which led to Emila showing good feet to evade challenges, break into the box and slot home with 15 minutes to go. Not happy with a point, Sporting pushed and Emilia again managed to dance through the Ashton defence and score what would be the winner inside the last five minutes. The Sporting girls showed great character to come back and both teams produced an excellent game of football. They don’t have a league fixture for the next two weeks, so will be looking to arrange friendlies. It was also lovely to see the girls pay tribute to injured centre half Roisin, who had to undergo ACL reconstruction surgery last week and faces a long layoff. The team spirit amongst this group is second to none and it’s a joy to see.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U18 Girls. They played Bournville at the weekend and had perhaps their best game of the season so far, with a convincing 6–1 win. Trying a new team formation, Bromsgrove were a little slow getting started. Unfortunately, Bournville capitalised on this and went 1-0 up. Sporting rallied, started to get it together and quickly scored two goals before half time. It was beginning to look like the girls had adapted and, in the second half, they were unstoppable – passing and moving, making the space and shooting. Their goalkeeper was excellent throughout, and Bromsgrove were only able to put another four past her. Goalscorers were Persia (x3) Elle (x2) and Amelia. They are away at Old Wulfrunians on Saturday – a tough test.
  • The Under 18s are recruiting, as well as the Ladies First Team and Development Team.
