COACHES’ CORNER: Redditch United (A)

Ahead of today’s league match at Redditch (3:00 KO), assistant manager Leon Broadhurst has talked about the fixture and the size of it. He starts with reflections on last weekend’s defeat…

Last weekend, I think we didn’t do the basics of non league football – we didn’t land on the firsts and we definitely didn’t land on the seconds. If you don’t do that at Step Three, it’s going to be a difficult afternoon and that was proven last week. The gaps between attack and defence were too big and, out of possession, we looked a bit vulnerable.

We’ve worked hard this week – this is a massive game that means a lot to the town, especially with our history against Redditch where we haven’t been on the winning side for a number of games. It’s something that we’re looking to rectify here – we’ve had a good week, discussed last Saturday and worked hard to put things right. We are all looking forward to the game.

We know it’s a local derby and we know that form goes out the window – it’ll be the team that works the hardest who will be able to show their quality and come away with three points.

We’re confident that if we play our game and play the way we want to – do the basics of non league football – then hopefully we’ll have a good afternoon. If we don’t do any of that, then it could be difficult for us.
