LADIES

  • In Sunday’s game against Droitwich Spa Ladies at the UK Electrical Stadium, Sporting took a 1-0 lead into the half time break through Abi Bourne. The second half was an even contest, with times where Bromsgrove had to dig in, with Droitwich chasing the equaliser. Some great passing football from both teams made it one of the most exciting games for a long time – Sporting Ladies showed some really good touches, with focus and attitude being first class. It was a deserved 1-0 win in the end and an incredible advert for ladies football. The Player of the Match was Amy Kendall.
  • This Sunday (weather permitting), they are at the UK Electrical Stadium to Crusaders Women (2:00 KO).

LADIES DEVELOPMENT

  • The Ladies Development Team is the final leg of the pyramid into the first team, with a mixture of experience and youth in the side. They are still looking for a manager – contact Alan Williams on 07786 983 951 for more info.
  • They played Wyre Forest on Sunday and drew 2-2. After a great start, with Erin nipping in to score in the first few minutes and Natalie making it 2-0 just before half time, things were looking good. However, Wyre Forest had different ideas and came out after the break with a strong and determined attitude to make a game of it . Unfortunately, they were successful, getting a goal back midway through the second half. Sporting had a few chances to make it 3-1 but didn’t take them and were punished with minutes to go, with a long range effort hitting the back of the net.
  • This Sunday, they are away to Kidderminster United Women (2:00 KO).

VETERANS

  • Sporting Vets travelled to Willclare Sports to play Coleshill in a Premier League Game, with both teams in good form. The game started at a fast pace from the off, with some good football played by both sides. Unfortunately, Sporting started to rush their passing and this led to mistakes being made, which resulted in Coleshill being gifted a weak penalty which was slotted home. Sporting reacted positively and, five minutes later, a well worked move from midfield got the ball to Shane Benjamin, who slotted home beautifully to make it 1-1. Coleshill got their tails up and, with five minutes of the first half remaining, another mistake by Sporting gifted Coleshill their second, as the home team went into the break leading 2-1. The second half started just like the first, with good spells of play by both sides. Coleshill had the better of these, leading to a well worked third goal. Sporting’s management then made a tactical change, to go three up front in a 4-3-3 formation. This paid dividends, as five minutes after, Ash Taylor headed home to make it 3-2. Sporting continued to press and hard work by Lee Woodward in midfield was really starting show, as Coleshill struggled to keep the ball. This led to a lovely Sporting move, resulting in a well worked goal for Alex Taffe, firing the ball into the back of the net to make it 3-3. The three players up front for Sporting really gave Coleshill’s back for some real nightmares, with Nav Arshad running his socks off and creating space for his teammates, which resulted in Taffe’s second goal, as Sporting took the lead for the first time in the game. This affected Coleshill, and they lost their shape a little. With 10 minutes to go, some lovely play from the back found Woodward in midfield, who passed a lovely through ball to Benjamin. He had his back to goal 20 yards out but somehow managed to turn, beat both centre halves and rifle the ball past the keeper to make it 5-3 to Sporting with five minutes to go. Hats off to Coleshill – they continued to fight and, in the last minute, put their best move of the game together, which resulted in a lovely one-two on the edge of the box with a good finish to make it 5-4. 30 seconds later, the referee blew for full time. A great battling performance by Sporting, showing some real fight and spirit to get a result out of a closely contested game. Man of the Match goes jointly to Shane Benjamin and Lee Woodward, who were outstanding on the day. This gives Sporting a three game unbeaten run, scoring 25 goals and conceding three.
  • Sporting Vets move onto play the Carpenters Arms away, in the Third Round of the Major Cup, this Sunday.

GIRLS

  • The Girls now want to expand its pathway by recruiting an U9 girls manager/coach – contact Alan Williams on 07786 983 951.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U10 Girls. They had a tough start to their game against Inkberrow Eagles U10 Girls. It was a very slow start to the game and they struggled with the tempo for the first 10 minutes. The girls then seemed to pick up the pace and it became more of an even game at the end of the first half. Second half saw the Bromsgrove girls put in a fantastic performance – they showed grit and determination, in what was by far the best game of the season. Their next game is away at Kidderminster.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U13 Girls. They travelled to Worcester City this week and didn’t start with as strongly as they would have liked. Worcester came flying out of the blocks and put Sporting under pressure from the very start, with Layla having to make a couple of early saves. Worcester had a strong side and closed space down well – Sporting struggled to settle into the game. Sporting did finally start to settle and get into the game, but were undone after a good Worcester break resulted in a good save from Layla, only for the ball to land nicely for the forward to finish. Shortly after, another breakaway led to the Worcester forward going clean through and she finished well into the bottom corner. The second half saw a much better display from the Sporting girls, getting hold of the ball and playing on the front foot much better. A number of chances fell to Immy and Emila and a couple of speculative shots from Esmee all fell short, as the game ended in a 2-0 defeat. The girls will look to get back to winning ways this weekend, with a home game against Meadow Park.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U18 Girls. They played a good Inkberrow side this week and came away worthy 3-1 winners. Inkberrow started strongly and had several attempts at goal, but Sporting dealt with them efficiently and began to make their own chances. Ruby skimmed the bar with a good effort and then Persia struck the first of her three goals in the 29th minute. 1-0 at half time and within minutes of the restart, Bromsgrove were 2-0 up, Persia striking again. The resilient Inkberrow girls continued to work hard and pressed forward; Sporting’s defence stood firm until a well worked move goal saw them get it back to 2-1 with 20 minutes left. The game was end-to-end, with chances being made by both sides. Persia sealed the win for Sporting in the 93rd minute – her first hat trick for Bromsgrove and hopefully one of many more to come. They are at home to Bournville on Saturday.
