Bromsgrove Sporting ground out a 2-0 victory against Coventry Copsewood on Tuesday night, courtesy of goals from the deadly duo that are Sean Brain and Chris Conway.
The first 20 minutes of the game were scrappy but Copsewood looked livelier going forward. Their dominance brought them the first opportunities of the game as Dominic Alleyne and Matty Fowler had shots on goal, which were both expertly saved by Sporting shot-stopper Jake Bedford.
The home side's first clear-cut chance came on the half hour mark. Following some smart play by Brain, Will Tibbetts crossed the ball into Jack Wilson, who fired his shot across the goalmouth.
It appeared as though a well saved Sam Wills free kick would be Sporting's last chance of the half. However, that was not to be the case as Brain found the ball at his feet thanks to some smart play from Ryan Mahon. Some clever footwork meant that he was able to comfortably slot the ball into the top corner.
Given that Sporting arguably deserved to go into the break trailing, they could have been deemed fortunate to find themselves in the driving seat.
The snow started to fall as the second half commenced and Sporting seemed more fired up now than at any time during the first 45. Conway was constantly making a nuisance of himself to the opposition's defence and his persistence was rewarded with a sweet strike that left Dale O'Donnell no chance of keeping it out whatsoever.
Sporting continued to dominate play, managing to maintain their two goal cushion right through to the final whistle. Not for the first time this season, Sporting's fitness as a team shone as they wore down a Copsewood side that were resilient for the best part of an hour.
The Victoria Ground faithful left with glowing smiles beamed across their faces on a bitterly cold evening.
