Despite heavy overnight rain, the pitch at the Pingles Stadium was given the go-ahead mid-morning and although somewhat heavy the surface was quite playable.

Sporting had a number of absences owing to work commitments or injury but Will Tibbetts was available to play as Causeway were not playing. With no recognised striker available, Matt Poyner played up front with Sam Wilkinson behind making up a five-man midfield.

It was the away team who started brighter in the overcast conditions and nearly scored in the second minute after a poor clearance from Griff that found Tibbetts. He threaded a lovely pass through the back line to Wilkinson who was unlucky to see his shot towards the top left hand corner tipped over by Dave Watson.

That incident seemed to wake the home side up who then had three good chances themselves in the next ten minutes.

However it was Sporting who took the lead on the 18th minute. Brett Mander picked up the ball from a throw-in and hit a hard cross into the box, where Lewis Clarke toe-poked home from close range.

The lead though only lasted three minutes when Alex Naughton equalised for the home side with a header after a neat build up with Mitch Thomson and Steve Barrett.

Without over-committing themselves both teams attempted to push forward to get the lead but the play remained resolutely in the middle of the park with chances being few.

Nuneaton finally got themselves in front on 33 minutes when Jake Harvey was alleged to have brought down Mitch Thomson in the box. Alex Naughton duly converted from the spot for his second.

With a slightly under-strength team and a goal down, expectation for Sporting was not that high at the start of the second half but the midfield got their act together moving the ball round neatly and getting well into the opposition half. Meanwhile at the other end, the back four well-marshalled by Joe Cole stopped Griff before they could create any real threats.

Sam Wilkinson came close on 79 minutes but his shot went just over the bar. However two minutes later the lanky midfielder had another shot that beat Nuneaton keeper Watson only to hit the angle. The rebound though dropped in front of Matt Poyner who gratefully fired home to balance the score up.

Cue for Griff push forward in greater numbers but their attacks came to little as the Sporting defence remained steadfast and played the game out to a justified draw.

After the final whistle, Bromsgrove coach Matt Lowe said, "we played well, particularly in the second half. We created enough chances to have won the game and certainly we deserved the draw".

So Sporting gain a useful point and played much better after the disappointing performance against Pilkington the week before.
