Despite being outplayed for the majority of the first half and torrential weather conditions, clinical finishing allowed Bromsgrove Sporting to put seven past Southam United without reply. An impressive score line given the opposition were unbeaten in five games before this fixture.
Sporting hit the blocks running when Sam Wills comfortably slotted home a shot into the bottom corner inside the first minute. However, for the next forty minutes, Southam dominated proceedings.
After a quarter of an hour, the lively Connell Farrell had a powerful shot superbly tipped over the bar by Jake Bedford and just after the half hour mark, the away team had another guilt edge chance but Sporting's Will Tibbetts put a last gasp tackle in to prevent a certain goal.
Southam were made to rue these missed opportunities as Sporting scored two more goals just before the half time whistle. A Tibbetts header off a deflected cross from Wills was followed by a goal from Reece Hewitt, which was beautifully created by team mates Danny Morris and Sean Brain.
The rain did not relent during the second half and neither did the goals. Manager Paul Smith made a double substitution five minutes into the second half as dynamic attacking duo Jozsef Jakab and Chris Conway. These would prove to be inspired changes.
The 66th minute saw Jakab put the game beyond any doubt with a delicate finish from a Chris Duggan cross. He doubled his tally for the evening with a well-placed effort, which gave keeper Tom Cross no chance whatsoever.
Conway also made sure he was amongst the goals; his first being an 83rd minute tap in into an empty net as he capitalised on a poorly judged backpass from Southam defender Adam Guest. He completed his brace in the second minute of added time, where he knocked in from a yard out as keeper Cross could only parry a firmly struck Simon Fitter free kick.
What, at times, looked a difficult encounter for Sporting, ultimately turned into a procession. The two goals notched up by the home side before the break effectively knocked the stuffing out of Southam.
Even former Bromsgrove talisman Mark Bellingham was unable to make an impact on his return to the Victoria Ground. The night also saw his title as Sporting's highest all-time scorer taken from him by Chris Conway.
