After scoring two early goals, Sporting looks to be coasting this match though Aston came back strongly before Sporting put the game beyond reach late in the second half.
Will Tibbetts was the scorer of both the early goals. The first came with a fine run down the left followed by a hard low drive from the edge of the penalty are that left Aston keeper Raghban Ali groping at thin air.
The second just a couple of minutes later also started down the left as Tibbetts evaded a couple of tackles before running into the box, evading two more before hitting the target though a narrow gap between keeper and post.
Sporting then sat on their lead and took few risks though a few more chances were created. Aston settled down and made attempts to get beyond the Sporting back four and although they looked threatening they never gave Matt Lowe in the home goal that much to do. However with a couple of minutes of the half remaining they did get one back when Carlos McIntosh found himself with time and space in front of the goal and hit an angled drive into the corner of the net.
After the interval Sporting created enough chances to bury their opponents but a couple of useful substitutions by Aston, helped them raise their game in an attempt to get the equaliser. But really the Sporting defence mopped up everything thrown at them.
Ricardo Richards came on as a substitution for Sporting on the 68th minute and with his first touch of the ball laid off a simple pass from a throw in to Jacob Snape who had the easiest of tap-ins.
Heads went down on the Aston side who knew it was going to be a huge climb to get back and so it proved as Sporting hung on to their lead and now go into the next round of the Midland Combination Challenge Cup.
They now have another cup match on Saturday when they take on Stafford Town in the FA Carlsberg Vase.
