It was a competitive weekend for Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s, who drew 2-2 against close league rivals Cadbury Athletic U21s.
The two sides remain neck and neck on nine points, with Bromsgrove clinging on to third, separated by goal difference from fourth-place Cadbury.
The Rouslers started on the backfoot, conceding to an impressive Cadbury strike before George Gillon tapped home a rebound from a penalty to get the home side back on track.
The match remained a close contest, with each side picking up another goal, but neither was able to find the third and the game ended all square.
“It was a slow start from us, but then we grew into the game, winning a penalty and scoring from the follow-up,” said joint manager Mark Reeve.
“We started the second half much better in possession, with Josh Burgess picking the ball up with a neat delivery for George Gillon to slot in for his second.
“There’s plenty to work on, as we host Solihull Sporting at home next up.”
“As we move through the season, you get weekends with injuries, illness and players away and Saturday was one of those days,” said U21s joint manager Stuart Carson.
“Overall on reflection, a draw was probably a fair result, even though, encouragingly, we played the better football in spells. Managing games is part of the learning curve at U21 level and it’s something we will continue to work on.
“Well done to Zak Parr, who we thought was outstanding at 16 years of age and a special mention to George Gillon, making it four goals in two games from midfield.”
On the news front, the club is working to share updates about all of its teams with more fans.
In addition to the weekly website updates, Sporting fans can now find news about teams, including the U21s, in the first team’s matchday programmes.
The content aims to promote all the club’s teams in different competitions and help them reach wider audiences at first-team matches to raise awareness of their fixtures, results and achievements.
Next up, the U21s will welcome Solihull Sporting U21s on Saturday 19th October at 10:30am, in their final home match of the month.
“This week, we welcome Solihull Sporting to the UK Electrical, which I’m sure will be another competitive fixture,” Carson commented.
“As always, massive thanks to our volunteers and the ground staff. The playing surface was first class once again.”
