OPPOSITION

  • 2023/24 league position: 15th (Southern League Premier Central)
  • Last season: P40 W13 D9 L18. GD -25. 48 points.
  • This season: P9 W5 D2 L2. GD +11. 17 points. They sit 5th (of 22 teams).
  • This season (away): P4 W2 L2. 6 points. GD +2.
  • These matches have been wins at St Ives (1-2: 9th Sept) and Hitchin (0-3: 28th Aug), along with defeats to Royston (1-0: 7th Sept) and Halesowen (2-1: 10th Aug).
  • They have only lost two games in the league this season and only failed to score in one – the Royston defeat.
  • The Poppies’ goals for and against statistics in the league so far this season are fairly impressive. With their 18 goals, they are averaging two a game and only Sudbury (23) and Bedford (22) have scored more (both those teams have played two games more). With only seven goals conceded, only Banbury (6) have let in less.
  • They have won three league games in a row (St Ives 1-2 A, Lowestoft 4-1 H and, most recently, Stamford 2-0 H). Only Bedford, who have won four in a row, have a better current winning streak in the league.
  • FA Cup wins over Cleethorpes and St Ives meant that, with those three league wins, Kettering did enjoy a five match winning spell in all competitions. This run was ended by their FA Trophy defeat to Gainsborough Trinity.
  • Former Newcastle United striker Nile Ranger went on a four game scoring streak when he scored in their last two league wins, along with those FA Cup wins over Cleethorpes and St Ives.
  • With 10 points in their last five games, only Bedford and Stratford have a better record in every side’s last five league games.
  • FA Cup: First Round Proper – playing away at Northampton Town (beat Farsley Celtic in the Fourth Qualifying Round)
  • FA Trophy: Third Qualifying Round (lost at home to Step Three Gainsborough Trinity. First game in the competition this season).
