Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s are through to the quarter finals of the Challenge Bowl, after a second half surge secured their 4-1 victory over Sporting Khalsa.
The visiting Khalsa side made a statement start, with a stunning free kick goal to be the first off the mark.
Bromsgrove probed the opposition defence, before a pinpoint cross found Zak Parr, who scored the leveller.
The team’s remained tied until Bromsgrove scored three times in less than ten second half minutes.
Lewis Doyle’s quick reactions nudged in a corner ball to take the lead, before James Tierney’s shot was deflected by a defending Khalsa man to give the home side a two goal advantage.
Constant action in the visitors’ half soon saw another dazzling ball find Archie Thurston, who knocked in his side’s fourth goal of the night to seal another Bromsgrove win.
“Saturday saw us close out the Challenge Bowl group stage with a victory, giving us maximum points and finishing joint top with Rushall Olympic,” said joint-manager, Mark Reeve.
“We’ve had some fantastic squad performances throughout the group stages against some strong opposition.
“Well done to all the players, staff and volunteers involved during the campaign so far.”
Fellow joint-manager, Stuart Carson, added: “Saturday night’s game was enjoyable on a number of fronts.
“Support from the club, fans backing the boys and a win to make it six out of six in the Bowl. Special mention to the young lads, who supported the boys, singing and drumming all night.
“In terms of performance, I thought we managed the game well and, with a little extra work rate, ran out comfortable winners.”
In other news this week, U21s player Bo Morris made his maiden start for Bromsgrove Sporting’s First Team, in their final game of the season against Bishop’s Stortford.
Morris, who has been a frequent starter for Sporting’s U21s since the beginning of the season, played for 55 minutes in the home fixture.
He has also appeared on the bench for first team duties in the past and has made appearances as a substitute in games.
“Well done to Bo on his first start for the first team on Saturday, proving patience and the right attitude presents opportunities,” said Carson.
It’s now a waiting game for Sporting, with the quarter finals set to be played on Saturday 17th May and the fixtures to be announced by the Midland Football League in due course.
“Our aim was to finish as high as possible, which will see us move straight into the quarter finals – a great effort by the lads,” said Carson.
“The hard work starts now, with hopefully an exciting end to our first season.”
