“Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s kicked off a long run of home games with a commanding 5-0 league win over Solihull Sporting U21s on Saturday.
Prolific goalscorer Harvey Flemming secured an early lead for the home side with a neat tap in before Man of the Match, James Tierney, fired in a second to give Bromsgrove a tidy 2-0 advantage at half time.
A handball from Solihull awarded the Rouslers a penalty, with the cool-headed George Gillon stepping up and scoring.
Tierney made it four goals in two games after netting his second of the day, and Finley Horrocks’ goal in the final minutes topped off a glorious morning for Bromsgrove.
“The lads carried on from last week, with a great start followed by a controlled performance and an excellent clean sheet.” said joint-manager, Mark Reeve.
Fellow joint manager, Stuart Carson, also said: “It was pleasing to carry on where we left off from the previous week.
“As a group, the boys are taking on patterns of play and shape, which is full credit to them all.”
The team are now nearing the end of their debut season, with all four of April’s fixtures played at home.
Sporting’s U21s continue their Challenge Bowl campaign, with three games against Sporting Khalsa Youth U21s, Stafford Rangers U21s and, starting this week, with Leicester Football & Education Academy U21s.
The month also includes a clash between Bromsgrove and Bedworth United U21s, as they fight for the last podium position in the final league fixture of the season for both teams.
The Leicester and Bedworth fixtures are both scheduled to kick off at 19:45 PM on the respective days, and the bar is open for drinks on both of these nights.
This week, Bromsgrove’s U21s will welcome Leicester Football & Education Academy U21s for a Wednesday night match.
“A quick turnaround this week and we look forward to welcoming Leicester under the lights which will be another tough test,” said Carson, with Mark Reeve hoping the team can “maintain our unbeaten run and keep up the good performances of late.”
Leicester have endured a string of defeats in the Bowl against tough South Division opponents including Stourbridge U21s and Bedworth United U21s, with their last win against Rushall Olympic U21s last month in the League.
They will face a Bromsgrove Sporting side that has won three out of three Bowl matches and currently sit second in the table on 19 points.
The home side are tied on 28 points in the Southern Division with Bedworth United U21s, while Leicester are bottom of the North Division on 11 points.
The visitors will be hoping to start the month on a high with their first Bowl victory, while Bromsgrove will be aiming to tighten their grip on second place in the competition.
Speaking about this week’s match, Stuart Carson said: “It would be great to get a few through the gate to support the boys on Wednesday, as we enter a run of home games until the end of April.
“In the coming weeks, we can cement third in the league and progress in the Bowl, so plenty to play for and there will be challenges we should relish,” he added.
Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s will kick off the month’s action against Leicester Football & Education Academy U21s this Wednesday (2nd April) with an evening start (7:45 KO) at the UK Electrical Stadium.
