LADIES

  • It was once again a very depleted Ladies side, as they faced Crusaders on Sunday. No goalkeeper, no strikers, the best midfielders going in between the sticks and players playing out of position, Sporting struggled to get any rhythm into their football. They had some good patterns of play, but again enforced errors changed the game completely, as they lost 4-0. Player of the Match was Amy Kendall, who played in three different positions superbly.
  • Manager Alan Horton commented: “I can only say a massive thank you to the ladies that gave their all and Nat Walsh for stepping up from the development side. Lots of chat has gone on midweek and we will bounce back.”
  • This Sunday, they face Crusaders once again, at the UK Electrical Stadium (2:00 KO) and the bar is OPEN!

LADIES DEVELOPMENT

  • The ladies travelled to Ludlow Town Women for a league encounter on Sunday. In wet and windy conditions, the ladies started well and put the opposition under good pressure in the first half. A couple of excellent chances were created; one shot being tipped over the bar by the Ludlow keeper. Sporting weren’t able to convert the chances created in the opening 45, which ended 0-0. Ludlow started the second half strongly and the deadlock was broken by the home side, via a cross into the box which was well converted. Three more quick goals came for Ludlow towards the end of the match, and so it ended 4-0. The scoreline didn’t reflect what was a competitive game, between two very equal teams. Overall, the ladies played really well, with standout performances from Katie and Ellie (who was starting her first game)
  • This weekend, they travel to Welland Ladies.

VETERANS

  • The Veterans lost 5-3 at home to Continental in the League on Sunday – this Sunday, they’re away to Continental, for the reverse fixture.

  • Bromsgrove Sporting U10 Girls. On a crisp Saturday morning, Bromsgrove Sporting Girls U10 hosted Kidderminster Lions Girls U10 in a spirited encounter. Despite low numbers, with just one substitute available, the Bromsgrove Girls showed immense heart and determination throughout the match. The first half saw the girls put in a solid effort, showcasing their strength and commitment in both defence and attack. The team worked tirelessly to match Kidderminster’s pace and skill, with several standout moments of teamwork and resilience. By the time the halftime whistle blew, the girls were ready for a well deserved break. The second half tested the endurance; despite the challenge of keeping up with the pace, the team maintained their determination, continuing to battle for every ball and demonstrating their never give up attitude. Their next match is away to Newtown Sports.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U13 Girls. A 2-1 defeat at Kingfisher Youth, but no complaints, the girls played well and were a bit unlucky against one of the the strongest sides in the league. The game started brightly, with both teams looking to get the ball down and play in this top of the table clash. Kingfisher started well and got the lead after five minutes, via a great run down their left wing. Sporting settled well after that though and started to apply some pressure on the Kingfisher defence, managing to get an equaliser after 20 minutes after a through ball was played to Emilia, who calmly slotted home. She got a similar chance shortly after, but this time the goalkeeper managed to save the high shot. The second half continued in a similar way, with both teams pushing to get the winner – Layla in goal for Sporting pulled off a couple of good saves to Bromsgrove in it, but with only five minutes to go, Kingfisher managed to get the winner, with a turn and shot from the edge of the box which flew into the corner. A 2-1 defeat was tough for Bromsgrove to take after playing so well and a point would have been deserved – but it wasn’t to be. A good game of football though, and they go again this weekend, with an away trip to Ashton 88 Youth.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U18 Girls. Playing away at Inkberrow Eagles, Bromsgrove U18s put up a good display against a fine team. The first half was controlled by Inkberrow, but some sterling defensive work kept it level, until the 30th minute, when Inkberrow scored with a great shot from outside the area – 1-0 at HT. The second half was a different story, with Sporting attacking on a regular basis and making chances, eventually scoring a well deserved equaliser. It was end to end thereafter, with both sides trying to get the winner. Inkberrow got the winner in the fourth minute of injury time, much to the disappointment of the Sporting girls. This weekend, they host Bournville .
