With the weekend just gone being the first occasion this year that all of our teams played, here is the first article of 2025 that looks at the latest results and news from the Sporting sides…
First Team
- The First Team’s seven match unbeaten run came to an end of Saturday, with a 1-0 loss at home to Leiston.
- This Saturday, they travel to Kettering Town for a league match (3:00 KO).

LADIES
- With five first team regulars missing, our Ladies had a tough task when they faced the in-form Kidderminster Harriers in a County Cup tie. With players coming in and some playing out of position, Bromsgrove had a really good first half to go only go 1-0 down a minute before half time. Again, Sporting started off very well, but got hit by enforced changes that forced them to reshuffle. Fitness and some really good football from Kidderminster led to them scoring five in the second half – 6-0 FT. All in all, with the squad Bromsgrove had, it was a great performance from the Ladies. Player of the Match was Charlotte Lane.
- This Sunday, they are away to Crusaders Women at Shirley Town Football Club (2:00 KO).

LADIES DEVELOPMENT
- They faced Hereford Ladies FC. A game that was always going to be a challenge – facing top of the league with a depleted team due to a run of injuries and illnesses (leaving the ladies with only 11 players). Hereford made a very quick start to the game and took the lead early on with two goals in the first 10 minutes, forcing the ladies to reassess and get back into the game. The ladies went into half time 6-0 down, but remained determined to come out and give the rest of the game their everything. A change to the system followed, which proved effective in the second half. Despite several injuries incurred during the game, the Ladies managed to recoup with a fantastic goal from Natalie which came via applying press play to the goalkeeper. It was always going to be a big game, given it was four weeks since the majority of the Ladies played a match – but huge credit goes to the whole team for keeping their heads up throughout. The 1-11 final scoreline aside, the ladies showed determination, had decent attacking opportunities and played with complete commitment to see the match out. Lynne walked away with a well deserved Player of the Match for her resilient performance in defence, playing out of position at right back. Her goal line clearance, and subsequent reaction, was definitely one of her standout moments!
- They are away to Ludlow Town Women this Sunday (2:00 KO).
VETERANS
- The Veterans drew 1-1 at Droitwich Spa on Sunday in the league. Shane Lenihan scored for the Rouslers.
- This weekend, they are at home to Continental Star (10:30 KO – weather permitting).

GIRLS
- Bromsgrove Sporting U10 Girls. On a chilly Saturday morning, the U10s returned to action for their first match since November, facing a tough Inkberrow Girls team away from home. The match was a tale of two halves. In the first half, Bromsgrove struggled to match the pace and stamina of a well-drilled Inkberrow side. Despite their best efforts, the home team dominated much of the play, putting Bromsgrove on the back foot. It was clear that the long winter break had taken its toll, with the girls finding it hard to settle into the game. However, the halftime team talk proved pivotal. A discussion on positions and tactics, coupled with words of encouragement, reignited the team’s spirit. The Bromsgrove girls returned to the pitch with determination and passion, ensuring the second half was a much closer contest. They pressed higher, tackled harder, and created more opportunities, demonstrating their growing understanding of the game and their commitment to improvement. Next week, they are back in action at home against Kidderminster, ready to build on their second half performance and continue their development as a team.
- Bromsgrove Sporting U13 Girls. They returned to action at the weekend with a Mercian League Cup Quarter Final tie away at Meadow Park. Neither side had played for over four weeks. Sporting started slowly and struggled to match Meadow Park’s work rate – the game turned into a midfield battle in the main and was quite a physical contest, which disrupted any momentum. Sporting did manage to get Emilia through on goal a couple of times, but she never quite managed to create the angle to get a good shot away. At the other end, the Sporting defence was solid and managed to keep Meadow Park out, without giving many chances away. A couple of injuries forced a number of changes and, as a result, Sporting never really got into their stride. A very tight game with few chances ended 0-0 – the penalty shootout didn’t go well, with Meadow Park winning 3-0. A tough way to go out of the cup, but they return to league action this weekend with a top of the table clash versus Kingfisher.
- Bromsgrove Sporting U18 Girls. Their first game of the new year saw them entertain Leafield Athletic, where they resoundingly won 8-0 with their best performance of the season so far. They started the game by putting a resolute and hard working Leafield defence under pressure and could have taken the lead in the first minute. However, despite complete domination, they could not get the ball in the net until the 27th minute. Bromsgrove continued to press, playing some great football, but couldn’t add to the score before half time. Sporting came out for the second half determined to convert the chances being made – four minutes into the half, the second was scored, quickly followed by the third and fourth. Leafield didn’t give in and battled hard – the fifth came in the 67th minute and sixth in the 72nd minute. Two more goals in the 79th and 88th minutes saw Sporting win 8-0. Goalscorers were Persia (x3), Amelia (x2) and Amélie, Elle & Erin (all 1 each). A massive well done to all the girls – they look forward to travelling to Inkberrow Eagles this weekend.
