Bromsgrove Sporting U21s made a triumphant return to the pitch at the weekend, with an electrifying 2-8 away win against Solihull Sporting U21s.

Solihull flew out the gates, with a tight left-footed finish getting past the Rouslers’ defence in the third minute.

But Bromsgrove were quick to respond, through Harvey Reeve, who scored off a clean cross from Brendan Field.

The visitors continued to create opportunities, but it was Solihull who had the next breakthrough, after launching an undefendable strike to take the lead once again.

George Gillan’s quick tap-in kept Bromsgrove in the picture before Field’s sharp shot into the top right corner put the Rouslers ahead for the first time.

New signing Alemi Obey-GM marked his debut with a goal before halftime, to give his side a 2-4 lead.

The second half saw further goals from Field, debutant James Tierney, Zak Parr and Ewan Carter, who fizzed in a mesmerising finish.

Denying the home side any more chances and consistently hunting opportunities, Bromsgrove sailed to a crucial victory, which has closed the gap to Bedworth United U21s in the battle for third.

“After a welcome return to action last week, it was good to give all the lads a run-out,” said U21 joint-manager, Stuart Carson.

“I thought we played some good stuff at times and managed to get valuable minutes into legs, as you can train as much as you want but matches are different” he said.

Mark Reeve, fellow joint manager, added: “On a poor surface, we moved the ball well in spells.

“We fell behind twice early on, but slowly found our rhythm and the goals flowed in a deserved win.”

Outside of the U21s, Archie Thurston once again featured on the first team’s bench, this time at Saturday’s match against Leiston.

It follows his Sporting debut in the team’s 0-2 win against Bishop’s Stortford last week.

This week, the team returns to County Cup action, when they travel to play Meadow Park.

Speaking about the upcoming match, Mark said: “We now look ahead to this weekend’s Worcestershire County Cup Quarter Final away against Meadow Park, from the MFL, which will be a good competitive test for the lads “

The Rouslers progressed to the quarter-finals after their scintillating 2-9 second-round victory over AFC Worcester, and a tense penalty shootout win against Pershore Town 88 Development.

Meadow Park had a similar cup journey, beating Hanley Swan First 8-1 in their first round before knocking out Feckenham FC Firsts on penalties to reach the quarter-finals.

The fellow Bromsgrove-based team play in Division Three of the Midland Football League and are currently 10th in the table.

“Onto this week and a very tough cup fixture against a strong Meadow Park side,” said Stuart.

“It will be good for some of the lads, who are going back to where they played their youth football.

“With a fully fit squad for the first time this season, competition for places is key now and hopefully this drives the level of performance we expect from the boys.”

Bromsgrove Sporting U21s will play Meadow Park in the Worcestershire Football Association Saturday Cup quarter-finals at 2:00 PM on Saturday 25th January at Meadow Park Football.
