LADIES

  • The Sporting Ladies went out on penalties in the League Cup on Sunday, after a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes against Leek Town Ladies Reserves.
  • Football is obviously all about taking chances and whilst the approach play from the ladies was excellent, they missed a cutting edge in the final third – a good performance nonetheless.
  • This Sunday, they are at the UK Electrical Stadium to Droitwich Spa Ladies (2:00 KO).

LADIES DEVELOPMENT

  • The Ladies Development Team is the final leg of the pyramid into the first team, with a mixture of experience and youth in the side. They are still looking for a manager – contact Alan Williams on 07786 983 951 for more info.
  • They played high flying Ross Juniors Women away on Sunday and lost 8-2 .
  • Two goals from Natalie Walsh pushes her up the league goal scoring charts, but they were not enough to beat a young and fast Ross team. Despite the scoreline, if silly mistakes could be cut out, Bromsgrove could have given the high flyers a game but, unfortunately, they were their own worst enemies – scoring two own goals in the second half was disappointing.
  • This Sunday, they are home to Wyre Forest Phoenix Ladies Firsts (2:00 KO).

VETERANS

  • Bromsgrove Sporting Vets continued their good form last Sunday, playing Newtown Vets at the UK Electrical Stadium in the Second Round of the Major Cup. A late morning withdrawal from star striker Josh McKenzie meant a change of formation for Sporting. Bromsgrove started slowly and seemed to be rushing their passes, along with looking for that elusive miracle pass to try and open up Newtown. This meant that Newtown had a lot more of the ball than they should have and, in doing so, created a couple of decent early chances which fortunately they couldn’t convert. Sporting still struggled to get anything going but a great through ball from Ash Taylor to Dan Ward saw the latter score with an excellent first touch finish to open the scoring. Bromsgrove settled a bit after the opener and further good football saw Taylor bag his first goal for Sporting. Five minutes from the end of the first half, Ward got his second – Bromsgrove 3-0 to the good. A good team talk from Dave Davies at half time seemed to work, as Sporting completely controlled the game with short sharp passing which left Newtown chasing shadows. This culminated in a second goal for Taylor, set up by a 30 yard run. Substitutions were then made – Nav Arshad came on up front and, five minutes in, he opened his account to make it 5-0 Sporting. Five minutes later, Sporting were at it again, with a good move through the middle allowing Jermaine Clarke to score. 30 minutes to go and Jonathan Hems was brought on for Alex Taffe in midfield – he wasted no time getting on the ball and moving it nicely out wide, stretching Newtown and helping Clarke to get his second goal to make it 7-0. Hems continued to control the midfield with his passing, leading to a third goal for Ward, quickly followed by two goals from Lee Woodward, making it 10-0 with 10 minutes to go. Newtown looked defeated now and goals from Leon Thomas and Arshad made it 12-0 to Sporting – into the Third Round of the Major Cup they go. Some superb performances all over the pitch from Sporting, but MOTM goes to Leon Thomas for an exceptional performance.
  • The Vets move on to a league Game on Sunday, away at Coleshill.

GIRLS

  • The Girls now want to expand its pathway by recruiting an U9 girls manager/coach – contact Alan Williams on 07786 983 951.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U10 Girls. They had a slow start against Droitwich Rockets U10 girls, with the first 15 minutes being all one sided. Despite the difficult start to the game, the girls showed their strength and determination to make the rest of the first half a close encounter. The second half was very competitive and the girls showed their resilience, kept their heads up, and finished very strong. Their next game is against Inkberrow at home.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U13 Girls. After a week’s break, the girls were keen to get back in action and started well against Ashton88. The game was a tight affair, with both defences on top, but Sporting dominated the ball and created a number of half chances throughout the first half, but to no avail. The second half continued in the same style, with Sporting pushing hard to break down a resolute Ashton defence. Sporting managed to put a number of good crosses into the box and combined that with some excellent build-up play. Bromsgrove were very unlucky not to break the deadlock when Immy’s shot from the edge of the box was deflected onto the post – but the close match ended 0-0. Next week, they travel to Worcester City.
  • Bromsgrove Sporting U18 Girls. They enjoyed a 1-0 win vs Knowle. Starting on the front foot, Sporting quickly went ahead after nine minutes with a well taken goal by Elle. Bromsgrove continued to play some very pleasing, bright attacking football, and could have scored a few more were it not for Knowle’s goalkeeper being in fine form. The second half saw much of the same, but Bromsgrove could not increase the lead to calm the nerves. Bromsgrove had a total of 15 shots, of which nine were on target. Knowle had five shots, of which four were on target. Overall, a really pleasing performance by all of the girls – they host Inkberrow this weekend at home.
