Chasetown 1 (Langston 63' Thompson missed pen 90+6')
Bromsgrove Sporting 0 (Wragg missed pen 56')
Bromsgrove Sporting were made to pay for missing chances on Saturday afternoon, as Chasetown knocked them out of the FA Trophy.
The prolific Jack Langston's 63rd minute goal was the difference between the two sides, extending the Rouslers' dismal record in the competition - in seven seasons of playing in it, they have won just one match.
The opening stages of the encounter were devoid of any clear cut chances; the 34th minute saw Bromsgrove's Charlie Wragg volley the ball into keeper Curtis Pond's grasp. Two minutes later, the Walsall-loanee had a golden opportunity; he got onto the end of a long ball but shot straight at Pond from an extremely inviting one-on-one position.
Harry Crook had a chance to break the deadlock later in the half, but he put his effort over the bar.
Langston and Tom Unwin had shots blocked for the home side early in the second half and these were the best opportunities after the interval to score the opener, until Wragg's 56th minute penalty.
After Pond brought down Crook in the area, he was tasked with keeping out Wragg's spotkick, which he did - it was a very tame attempt that was central to the goal and the Chasetown stopper saved it with his legs.
Bromsgrove were made to pay seven minutes later, as Langston notched up his eighth goal of the season with a strike from close range.
Langston almost doubled his tally for the afternoon in the 71st minute, but Sporting's Charlie Price was equal to his strike. Up the other end, substitute Kieran Cook had a fine free kick tipped over the bar by Pond three minutes later.
Later chances came the way of both sides; Sporting's Callum King-Harmes had a cross headed wide by Reece King with two minutes of the 90 remaining, whilst Chasetown had a penalty of their own in the sixth minute of added time. After Joe Thompson was felled in the box by Price, the two faced off again from 12 yards, but the shot was dragged wide.
