Bromsgrove Sporting 1 (Newell 50') Welwyn Garden City 0
A Jack Newell screamer guided Bromsgrove Sporting through to the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, on a difficult afternoon at the Victoria Ground.
The game got off to a terrible start in the fourth minute, as a 50/50 challenge between Sporting's Kieran Dunbar and Welwyn's Callum Taylor resulted in both players getting seriously injured.
A 23 minute stoppage in play followed, as both players received treatment.
There was very little to report for the remainder of the half, with the visitors' George Ironton and Bromsgrove's Connor Taylor both having chances in an, understandably, drab affair.
Newell's goal came in the 50th minute. He took a touch before unleashing a 30 yard volley that flew into the top corner, sending the Sporting faithful into rapturous celebrations.
Dave Keenleyside had a shot soon after that was easily saved by Sporting stopper Akos Onodi, whilst Jourdain Masidi almost doubled the lead up the other end, but his effort was well kept out by Charlie Crowley.
The 70th minute saw Bromsgrove's Nathan Hayward have a shot blocked from close range; eight minutes later, Welwyn's Carl Mensah volleyed over from inside the area.
Will Shorrock, Taylor and Jack Hallahan all had efforts late in the day to make it 2-0, but none were able to convert. It wasn't to matter though, as the Rouslers battled resolutely to secure the win.
