It was a bad day at the office for Bromsgrove Sporting going down to a 3-0 defeat at home to Northern Premier League Midlands Division team, Chasetown in the FA Trophy writes Shaunna-Grace Murphy.
The visitors wasted no time in controlling the game putting pressure on the home team particularly down the right side.
They were rewarded in the 6th minute when Luke Yates cut inside the box and saw his shot cleared off the line by Rouslers' captain Mike McGrath, keeper Ollie Taylor then saved from Mitch Botfield but the third shot in quick succession was fired home by Oli Hayward.
Yates almost made it two-nil soon after but Taylor flicked his effort over the crossbar for a corner.
Dan Sweeney and Ryan Edmunds made some positive runs and created some good chances for Bromsgrove but the Scholars' keeper Curtis Pond saved their attempts well.
Ten minutes before half-time Chasetown doubled their advantage. Yates again played a precision pass through to Jack Langston who dinked it beyond Taylor.
Soon after, Sporting were a whisker away from pulling one back when Sweeny slid the ball beyond Pond but his effort was cleared off the line by Tom Unwin.
Chasetown though ended the half on top as Joey Butlin and Langston both went close before the interval.
At the start of the second half, Sporting made two tactical changes with Charlie Shaw and Jack Byrne making way for Ammar Dyer and Zidan Sutherland making his Victoria Ground debut and with just five minutes of the half gone, the latter making his Victoria Ground debut missed a glaring opportunity to get a goal back after being clean through on goal and as 'keeper Pond slipped Sutherland put the ball wide of the goal.
Moments later Mikey Taylor forced Pond to divert the ball wide for a corner and there was some hope this would be the turning point for Sporting, however ten minutes later Chasetown score their third when Butlin slipped the ball through to Langston who volleyed past Taylor.
A day to forget for Sporting, however there were moments of positive play from Sweeney, Sutherland and Edmunds that kept some hope for the side.
