Bromsgrove Sporting 4 v 3 Blackwood

Reported By Conor Rees

3/11/2012

Bromsgrove Sporting secure three vital points by beating Blackwood 4-3 in an even match to extend Bromsgrove's unbeaten run to 4 games.

Bromsgrove went into half time at 2-2 after throwing away a 2-0 lead with goals from Chris Conway and Matt Ross for Bromsgrove. But Blackwood battled back and managed to score 2 headed goals before half time.

In the second half Bromsgrove's Chris Conway and Blackwood's Harry Rickus both got their second goal of the game to make the score 3-3.

Sporting's winner came 10 minutes later from the spot when John Rogers penalty found the back of the net.

Blackwood presented a real aerial threat throughout the encounter with numerous efforts and 2 of their 3 goals coming from headers. Their midfielders Gareth Evans and Chris Hill also produced a number of long-range efforts to threaten the home goal.

Despite winning, Bromsgrove had a number of defensive issues. Their marking was poor in the second half that allowed Blackwood to gain possession and make space that could have changed the overall outcome.

Sporting however did start well and scored within the first 5 minutes. Chris Conway's shot lofted over the Blackwood goalkeeper, Jordan Ellis, into the top left hand corner to give the home side an early lead.

Blackwood had chances of their own with Simon Hudson's early header cleared of the line and Gareth Evans' long-range effort tipped onto the crossbar.

But it was Sporting who got the second goal of the game with their next effort coming 20 minutes after their first. A long searching cross was delivered into the box where Matt Ross' powerful header found the net to give the home side a 2-0 lead.

Blackwood got a goal back in the 33rd minute when Steve Nurse tapped in a header after a blocked shot off a Bromsgrove defender. They continued to apply the pressure and 6 minutes after their first goal, equalised when Harry Rickus headed in a close range effort past Tom Savage to send the sides in level at half time.

Bromsgrove emerged stronger at the start of the second half when Chris Conway got his second goal of the game within a minute of the re-start. He shot just inside the box firing past the Blackwood keepers bottom left-hand corner to make the score 3-2.

The lead was again cancelled out after some poor defending from Bromsgrove. Harry Rickus got his second of the game for Blackwood after he tapped in a deflection off the near post to even the scores at 3-3.

The game could have gone either way at this point with Bromsgrove failing to defend well and allowing a number of free Blackwood headers on goal.

Blackwood's Chris Hill produced two excellent long-range efforts that brought the best out of Bromsgrove goalkeeper Tom Savage to deny Blackwood from gaining the lead.

Bromsgrove's Elliot Nash put in a great performance with a number of tricky runs and 20 minutes from time he was brought down in the Blackwood box and Mr Strickley pointed to the spot. Substitute Jon Rogers stepped up and buried the penalty in the bottom right corner of the net to give Bromsgrove the lead for the third time the game.

Blackwood didn't produce any more threatening efforts and that enabled Bromsgrove to gain all three points and win the game 4-3.

Bromsgrove's joint manager Keith Draper said that Blackwood "are a good side now, they've brought in some good players and their league position doesn't reflect where they should be."
"It was a bit sloppy at the back today I thought but again it's another home win and I'm happy with three points."
