Bromsgrove Sporting 1 (Patterson 27')
Kettering Town 2 (Ranger 45', Edwards 65' P)
Kettering Town came from behind to beat Bromsgrove Sporting at the UK Electrical Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Defender Ethan Patterson gave Bromsgrove the lead, but goals from frontmen Nile Ranger and Jonny Edwards helped catapult the Poppies to second in the league.
The opening stages were competitive but low on real major moments; the first of these was a sad one, as Sporting defender Josh Ezewele suffered a dislocated shoulder.
His replacement, Patterson, opened the scoring in the 27th minute - he was first to Jamie Meddows' pinpoint cross and managed to divert the ball into the net.
Kettering's Wes York unleashed a fierce strike in the 34th minute that Sporting stopper Charlie Price tipped wide.
The leveller came on the stroke of the 45th minute, as Ranger neatly placed a cross from out wide into the bottom corner.
Chances fell the way of both sides early in the second half, as Bromsgrove's Shay Palmer had a shot kept out before Devon Kelly-Evans had a strike up the other end brilliantly saved by Price.
The Rouslers' Carter Lycett had a left footed shot from the edge of the area palmed wide by Kettering keeper Dan Jezeph in the 57th minute.
A barrage of chances followed in a ferocious five minute spell for the visitors - the 63rd minute saw Patterson heroically block a Tyree Wilson effort off the line. Two minutes later, Patterson was adjudged to have stopped a shot with his hand inside the area - up stepped new signing Edwards, who nonchalantly placed the ball into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
The 68th minute saw Kelly-Evans have another opportunity, this one saved by the feet of Price.
Bromsgrove's Charlie Wragg hit the side netting after being played in neatly with 18 minutes of normal time remaining, whilst Edwards had an effort from a one-on-one situation incredibly saved by Price soon after.
Both Edwards and Wragg had further opportunities to get on the scoresheet inside the final moments of the game, but it was the former's penalty that would prove to be the match winner.
