There was plenty of excitement ahead of Sporting’s inaugural World Cup fanzone event, as England faced Croatia in the Three Lions’ opening game of the competition – it’s fair to say it delivered… and then some!
A Harry Kane brace, along with goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford, guided Thomas Tuchel’s men to an impressive win. Cheering them on was a sell out crowd at the UK Electrical Stadium, with all 80 tables on offer snapped up, helping to fuel an incredible evening of support.
Efficient table service for drinks, delicious food offerings from our Hangry Moose and Chatty Patty, and a family friendly atmosphere all added to a what was an unforgettable evening.
Following the opening game, England’s final group match against Panama was sold out, whilst the Ghana encounter had 19 tables remaining the following morning – all of which had gone by the end of the day.
Event co-organiser Elliot Newton, of Newton Bars, said: “A success with our first collaborative fanzone. A sell out with an amazing atmosphere and drinks flowing, it was great to see Bromsgrove come together to support our country.
“Both the remaining group stage games are now both sold out too, which is great to see. A lot of work has gone on between ourselves and the new Bromsgrove Sporting owners behind the scenes to bring something new and different to the club, so we’re really happy to see the Bromsgrove community get behind it.”
Sporting’s chosen charity For the season, the NSPCC, joined us for the event, and will be doing so throughout the tournament.
We are proud to be supporting the NSPCC at our World Cup screenings – the partnership at our fanzones will include fantastic raffles, to help raise vital funds to help keep children safe. All monies raised will help support services like Childline – a lifeline for young people who need someone to listen in their hour of need.
Amanda Synnott, from the NSPCC, said: “We are incredibly grateful to Bromsgrove Sporting FC for their fantastic support in showing the World Cup games and choosing to raise funds for the NSPCC. A huge thank you also goes to everyone who bought raffle tickets and to our wonderful volunteers who helped make this possible.
