Ahead of Tuesday night’s opening home league match of the season versus Rushall Olympic (7:45 KO), manager Tim Flowers has talked about Saturday’s win and the excitement of playing at home. He starts with a look at our opponents…
We open up our season at home tomorrow evening at home, in what will be a very tough game against Rushall Olympic – who competed in the Northern section of Step Three last year. I think that was extremely harsh on them, with the travelling for away matches certainly not doing them any favours at all. I’m sure they’re delighted to be back in the Southern Central, with all the local games it gives them – and rightfully so that they’re back in our division.
Clearly when you look at the squad that Longy has put together, it’s very competitive, and they had a good result on Saturday against Hitchin to get their season off to a good start.
We now come off the back of a 3-1 away victory at Needham, which was extremely hard fought. It’s a very tough place to go and play – not long ago they got promoted to the National League North and they’ve always been difficult to beat, especially at home, and they don’t concede goals.
Although we didn’t hit the heights that we have in some of our pre-season games, we had to dig really deep and tough it out – to score three goals away from home is no mean feat and it was an excellent to start for us. We now have to move on into the two home games upcoming and try to consolidate that win.
Everybody in the league wants to get off to a good start and by Saturday evening – after the first three games – we’ll sort of know where we’re at.
As I mentioned on Saturday, I’d very much like to thank the supporters who travelled down – and there seemed to be plenty cheering us as we came off. It’s really appreciated by the players and staff, and it would be great if we could see the town of Bromsgrove come out and support the local team tomorrow night.
There’s been a lot of work go on in the summer, and the new owners have worked really hard on improving the facilities at the UK Electrical Stadium – whether that be the new restaurant, the work on the bar, the entertainment, the painting and cleaning of the ground to improve its standard, the pitch that has recovered really well from the fanzone and looks in good condition.
All of this has helped me invest in the squad and bring in good players. We’ve had a good pre-season, in terms of the way we’ve managed to gel together in the games that we’ve played, and obviously we got off to a decent start on Saturday.
It’ll be fantastic to see a good crowd there, to come and enjoy some non league football. I look forward to seeing a few faces tomorrow night!
