U21s SUMMARY: The Latest News

This article about our U21s side, from Matt Tennant, looks at this Saturday’s season finale, after they made it six league wins in a row last weekend…

Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s flew into the top five after a strong 4-2 home win over Stourbridge U21s last weekend.

Sporting arrived having never beaten the visiting Stourbridge, but a two goal lead into half time was evidence of Bromsgrove’s determination to change that.

It was the young stars Alemi Obey-GM and Zak Parr who got the Rouslers going, each with cool finishes.

Stourbridge were quick out the blocks in the second half to score their first and halve Bromsgrove’s lead.

But the home side remained composed, pushing forward and finding opportunities, with Kellan Moran and Lewis Doyle scoring to regain a commanding lead.

The overwhelming intensity of Bromsgrove’s attack gave Stourbridge plenty of difficulties and, despite slotting a second goal, the visitors were forced to accept the loss for the first ever time against Bromsgrove.

“After a great run of results, we entertained a strong Stourbridge side,” said Under 21s joint-manager, Stuart Carson.

“We expected a good local derby and it didn’t disappoint.

“Overall, it was a very pleasing display from the start, and two great goals from Alemi and Zak, two of our youngest members in the group at just 18, gave us the lead into the break.

“Sometimes, you forget we have one squad and others in the league have Under 18s floodlit, an academy system and older lads to choose from.

“We did have to weather the storm at times and had lads playing with knocks, but full credit, as every one of them gave it everything.

“The message at half time was to keep going, exceed Stourbridge’s work rate and utilise our pace.

“Stourbridge came back into it but a great goal from Kel and another one from a corner by Doyley saw us over the line.

“The group have worked so hard in training and their hard work is paying off. What’s really pleasing is we set the lads a challenge in January to aim for 4th or 5th in the league and, as of this weekend, we are close to achieving our target.”

The result sees Bromsgrove continue their charge up the table and are only one point way from third place Sutton United U21s, who Sporting take on this Saturday.

Sutton have enjoyed a fantastic season so far this year and currently sit on 37 points.

The team boast some impressive results, including a 13-0 thrashing of Coventry United U21s in the Challenge Bowl and an 11-0 victory over Diamonds Academy U21s, as well as many clean sheet wins across the season.

Despite this strong form, their grip on a top three finish is not overly tight, as Bromsgrove aim to knock them down for a top three finish of their own.

The Rouslers look to be unstoppable, having won their last six league games, and are rising rapidly through the standings.

Meanwhile, Sutton United will look to bounce back after a bruising 4-1 defeat to Brocton United U21s last weekend, in their first league loss since September.

“Onto this week and a final fixture against Sutton, who are pushing for the league,” said Stuart Carson.

“A real test for our group and one we look forward too as always. A couple of better results in our first few games would have put us in the mix, but we’ll learn from our slow start and look to finish on a high as we go into the summer.”

Who will win take the glory in this major clash for third in the league? Find out on Saturday when Bromsgrove Sporting U21s play their final game of the season Sutton United U21s at Sutton United Football Club (10:30 KO).
