COACHES’ CORNER: Tim Flowers Previews Real Bedford

Ahead of tomorrow’s season finale, at home to Real Bedford (3:00 KO), manager Tim Flowers has looked at the fixture, the future and our incredible support. He starts with reflections on last weekend’s heroics at Stratford…

Last weekend was a massive relief clearly. The lads have been sensational in the last month and a half. They have put together some away results that have been pivotal in keeping us in this division – it’s just a shame our home form couldn’t be better!

The away form is purely down to good lads, good people, good spirit and good professionalism; working hard – nothing more and nothing less. Good, honest lads, who have given me, and this football club, everything.

There’s times where I thought tomorrow’s game would require a result to keep us in the league – I even thought it up until Stratford last weekend. Real Bedford are an unbelievable team, and it would have been a difficult ask. They are the best footballing team in the league – we went their just after Christmas and I realised the sort of task we would have faced here.

We’ve won three away games from our last four on the road, and it’s a fantastic effort. The boys have run their hearts into the ground and my congratulations go to them – we clearly need to put on a performance tomorrow and try and get a result.

Media Max told me we haven’t won three games in a row all season, so let’s have a go at it!

Other than that, I’ve got some massive thank yous, which will no doubt come out tomorrow. But, I must thank the supporters at Stratford – it was just ridiculous. I felt like we had half of the crowd behind the lads, at both the ends – none of this cobblers where you have to be segregated. They could support the team like proper non league, which is the right way to do it. They were brilliant, as were my players.

Let’s try and finish the season off with a bit of pride and that’ll be the message I’ll give to the players – we’re up against a top team. They’re going to finish third and many congratulations to them because, in the end, they’re doing what we aspire to do. What we really need to do as a club is really crack on with it – we’ve got a fanbase, so we need to get on with it.

I’ll be spending the next couple of months on my phone as usual, trying to sort players and a squad out. I really hope to put a squad in place that will excite the fanbase going forward. But let’s get tomorrow out the way first!
