U21s SUMMARY: The Latest News

This article about our U21s side, from Matt Tennant, looks at last weekend’s brilliant win and next Saturday’s match following an Easter break…

Bromsgrove Sporting U21s steamed to victory with an 4-0 away win against Mercia Athletic to reach the highest points tally in the development team’s history.

The Rouslers extended their streak to four consecutive League wins, propelling the side to a record 30 points.

They are only eight points off top of the table Boldmere St Michaels and seperated from fourth place Sporting Khalsa Youth by just two points.

Bromsgrove wasted no time at the start and quickly overwhelmed Mercia before smashing in the opening goal inside the first two minutes, courtesy of Josh Burgess’ boot.

Firmly on the front foot, Sporting played with freedom and grew in confidence as the game unfolded. The visitors continued to work some close chances until Zak Parr and Ethan Ward converted two opportunities to secure a convincing 0-3 lead into the break.

Just like the battering wind, the Rouslers were not letting up in the second half.

Despite facing forecful weather conditions, Bromsgrove continued to work the ball well and challenge a committed Mercia Athletic defence.

Sporting’s Jack Cooke slotted a fourth for the team in the final minutes to secure another conclusive result for Bromsgrove’s U21s.

Bromsgrove U21 joint-manager, Stuart Carson, prasied his sides work ethic, saying: “After a couple of sluggish starts over the past couple of games we couldn’t have started any better.

“A few tweaks were made to the starting line up due to injury, holidays and suspension which gave the group more game time.

“Taking on baord some formation changes we capitalised within the first two minutes for a fine finish from Burg.

“Sometimes you can score too early but with great patience we created numerous chances against a low block and extended the lead to three at the break. Great for Ethan to get on the sheet and he led the line very well.

“We had to play the conditions and some of our possesion was a pleasure to watch on the deck.

“Second half against the wind we again created chances and full credit to Mercia keeper who was simply outstanding. Well done to the young man.

“Making changes throughout the half we finished strong with a fine finish from Cookie. A clean sheet and taking our record to 8 wins in 9 league games justifies the lads work rate since the turn of the year.”

Following a short Easter break, Bromsgrove will face Coventry United U21s.

The Coventry youth team are currently 13th in the league standings, on 18 points.

Since the start of the year, the team have played five home games and fared well against their opponents.

Coventry have won three of their last five games, with all of these being by at least three goals or more and both losses ending 1-2 against league leaders Boldmere St Michaels and Stafford Rangers U21.

The team’s last result was an unstoppable 5-0 victory over S J B Juniors U21 at home, providing momentum that they will hope to carry into the matchup against the Rouslers.

Bromsgrove’s U21s are also in impeccable form, winning eight of their last nine league games and showing no signs of slowing down.

A win in their next match could shoot Bromsgrove up to fourth in the table, with Stuart Carson saying: “After an Easter break we go into the last three games full of confidence and aware of tougher games to come which will hopefully finish off the season strong.

“Have a great Easter and get down to support the firsts following their fantastic result last weekend.”

With so much anticipation as we approach the end of the season, can Bromsgrove continue their comeback and go even further ahead?

Find out on Saturday 11th April when Bromsgrove Sporting U21 visit Coventry United U21 at the Butts Park Arena (10:30 KO).
