Ahead of today’s match at Worcester, manager Tim Flowers has talked about Saturday’s win and the recent improvement in performances. He starts with this thoughts on the task at hand this afternoon…
Another local derby and it’ll be a tough one – they’ve got some good players, a good manager and they know what they’re doing. We’ve got to go there and front up – both teams obviously have a quick turnaround from the weekend and clearly, if you look at the teamsheet, we have a few missing. We made a few changes on Saturday – and that wasn’t really to rest players.
It’s going to be a couple of teams, like every game in our league, where lads are playing tired, and I’ve got to think how to go about it. We’ll be ready to rumble because it’ll be a tough game, that’s for sure.
We got doubled by Bishop’s Stortford last season and by Worcester too – we got hammered there last year, not long before I came in. I watched the tape of it back and it was set piece city under the bar – goals from a yard out and all that. They basically beat us up and we need to be better than that.
For periods of time against Bishop’s, our standard of play was better than this level. We also gave up a few chances, but if you’re going to play like that with the ball, that is going to happen.
What I couldn’t have was – in the first couple of games – it was like a basketball game; now, it isn’t like that. There’s a better structure when we turn the ball over and, if we’d have been ruthless, we could have had a right few – we were clean through a number of times and it’s hard to play against – when you’re popping the ball through the lines like that, with the players who can do it.
I thought Kieron Freeman was immense on Saturday – he ran the show at Redditch and against Bishop’s, and then I had to put him into defence as Hayden Reeves picked up a knock.
Hopefully our supporters really enjoyed it – I thank them for coming out, as it was lashing it down beforehand and they may not have fancied it, but a lot of them came.
The last two games have been a big improvement – as I’ve said before, there’s a big group that has come together and it will improve. Hopefully, it’s going to be a good crowd – I imagine it will be, as we might take a few on the back of Saturday’s win.
I just can’t help what I can be like on the sidelines at times – I’ve always been like it and I might as well pack it in if I can’t. I wear my heart on my sleeve and it is what it is. The referees can book me if they like but I can’t help myself. I’m lucky that the dressing room is driven by good lads and good players.
