Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s drew 0-0 in a tight game against Bedworth United U21s on Saturday to secure third in the Midland Football League.

The two teams arrived at the UK Electrical Stadium on 28 eight points apiece, with a win certain to secure the victors the final podium position.

After a goaless, yet active first half, both sides were equally as motivated in the second half – a testament to the determination and skill shown by each outfit this season.

Bromsgrove played with aggressive attacking intent, constantly moving the ball forwards and creating plenty of opportunities.

Despite much of the second half action being in the visitors’ half, Bedworth valiantly dug in with, weathering all of Bromsgrove’s advances.

After a lot of shots, including one missed Bromsgrove penalty, neither team could break the deadlock and both sides’ final League fixture ended with a hard-fought draw.

“Needing a point to finish our first season in third, the boys gave everything to secure the win,” said U21s joint-manager, Stuart Carson.

“I thought we edged it on overall play but just couldn’t convert.

“Another clean sheet is always positive, because if you can’t win the game, don’t lose it.”

This week, Bromsgrove welcome Stafford Rangers U21s from the North Division to continue their Challenge Bowl campaign.

Rangers finished fifth in the North Division on 24 points, just five away from Bromsgrove’s tally of 29 points in the South Division.

The home side currently occupy the same position in the Bowl standings, as they were knocked down to third by Rushall Olympic U21s on goal difference.

Stafford are sitting in 11th place, with six points, after winning two Bowl fixtures and losing one (to Cadbury Athletic).

Meanwhile, Bromsgrove have won four from four of their Bowl clashes, with two fixtures remaining in the competition.

“As always, we are expecting a tough game against Stafford Rangers, but we will be looking to extend our 100% run in the competition,” said Carson.

“Thanks to all our volunteers once again and it would be great to get some backing for the boys on a Bank Holiday weekend.”

You can catch Bromsgrove Sporting U21’s face Stafford Rangers at 10:30 AM on Saturday 19th April at the UK Electrical Stadium.
