“Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s won their third Challenge Bowl game in style with a dominant 0-7 victory against Coalville Town Ravens U21s.
The visiting Bromsgrove side appeared cool and collected from the start, with a Harvey Flemming opener and a double from James Tierney giving the team a solid 0-3 lead into half time.
Ewan Carter made it 0-4 with a quick finish after the break, before George Gillon slotted home two strikes in 15 minutes to extend the lead and continue both players’ top goalscoring record, with 10 each so far this season.
The Rouslers frequently denied Colaville Town opportunities and retained possession to secure a clean sheet, with Flemming scoring the final goal of the game.
“Returning to the Challenge Bowl Competition saw an early start on the road to Coalville Town, with a threadbare team,” said U21s joint-manager, Mark Reeve.
“Nevertheless, we got off to a great start, with controlled momentum throughout the game, and we were pleased to round off the match with a clean sheet,” he added.
Fellow joint-manager, Stuart Carson, added: “After a disappointment the week before, Saturday’s performance was a testament to the lads.
“It was a full on performance by the whole group, who took on board all the points we worked on in training. Some of the goals were a pleasure to watch – not only for the finishes, but the patience in our build up play.
“Many thanks also for everyone who made the long trip – it is very much appreciated by all in the Under 21s,” Stuart added.
This week, the team head back home to continue their league campaign against Solihull Sporting U21s.
“Now it’s back to Midland Football League action, where we look to maintain the standards set last week,” said Mark.
The visiting Solihull unit are currently ninth in the league on six points, with Bromsgrove in fourth and three points behind third-place Bedworth United U21s.
Despite losing their last league game 0-2 to Coventry United earlier this month, Bromsgrove’s U21s have a hat-trick of wins in the Challenge Bowl and are currently second in the Bowl table on nine points.
On the other hand, a struggling Solihull have lost their last six games across both League and Bowl fixtures, but have reduced their losing margins in recent clashes.
“Onto this week and a tough fixture against an improved Solihull looking at their recent form,” said Carson.
“We now have a run of home games until the end of the season, so it would be great to get some support for the lads’ great efforts during our first season.”
The visitors will be keen to end their losing streak this weekend, while Bromsgrove will want to bounce back after their last home defeat and reignite the battle for third in the league.
The U21s are back at home on Saturday 29th March, when they welcome Solihull Sporting U21s to the UK Electrical Stadium for a 10:30 kick off.
