“It was another successful week for Bromsgrove Sporting U21s who continued their strong away form with a 2-7 win over Stourport Swifts U21s on Saturday.
Their first of a run of five league fixtures away, the match was Bromsgrove’s second consecutive win by five or more goals, having won 2-9 against AFC Worcester in the County Cup the week before.
The visitors got off to a flying start, thanks to Brendan Field’s swift strike, which was followed up by Harvey Flemming’s quick tap in.
Keeping possession and creating chances, the Bromsgrove juggernaut rolled on, with Ollie Cunningham slotting in a neat cross from Ewan Carter. He then curled in a stunning ball for an own goal soon after, to extend his side’s strong 0-4 lead.
A pinpoint strike before half time kept Stourport in the picture but goals from Tyree Anglin and Carter added to the scoresheet in the second half to help the Rouslers sail off into the distance.
The home side knocked in a clean header for their second towards the end but it was Bromsgrove’s Zak Parr who had the final say, with a composed 90th minute score to end the scoring.
Reflecing on the game, joint manager Mark Reeve said: “In our return to league action and following on from positive midweek training, we started very well.
“Taking an early lead and not letting up, we added to the scoresheet throughout the match. Some positive ball play, ending with a controlled display, saw us take the points deservedly.”
Stuart Carson, fellow joint manager, commented: “When you score early, the game can go two ways and all credit to the lads, we pushed on to secure the three points.
“It’s great to see the team starting to gel on and off the pitch and this is ultimately helping us grow as a group.”
In the County Cup, the team have progressed to the Quarter Finals of the competition, after they beat AFC Worcester.
Bromsgrove will play Meadow Park in January next year for a spot in the Semi Finals of the WFA Saturday Cup competition.
Back in the league, Sporting’s U21s are currently fourth in the table, after being overtaken by Bedworth United U21s, but are looking to close the gap when they face Cadbury Athletic U21s this weekend.
The Bournville based side were tied with Bromsgrove on nine points for many weeks, and drew 2-2 in their last meeting at The UK Electrical Stadium in October.
“After ending with a draw last time out, we will look to go one better this weekend and carry on the current good away form,” said Mark.
Stuart added: “A tough test lies ahead this week away to Cadbury and, as always, we look forward to playing on what is usually a fantastic surface.”
Bromsgrove Sporting U21s will play Cadbury Athletic U21s on Saturday 9th November at the Cadbury Recreation Ground, kicking off at 10:30am.
