Spalding United 0
Bromsgrove Sporting 2 (Benbow 84', Willock 90+11')
There was an upset in Lincolnshire on Saturday afternoon, as a resolute Bromsgrove Sporting recorded a deserved 2-0 victory at title contenders Spalding United.
After weathering plenty of Spalding chances throughout the match, late goals from substitutes Luke Benbow and Shay Willock saw the Rouslers clinch a vital three points.
The first chance of the match was a big one, and it came inside the first minute, as the Tulips' Saleem Akanbi headed wide from a brilliant position inside the penalty area.
It was a half of further headed efforts, as Yusifu Ceesay put one over for the home side in the 33rd minute before Sporting's Jack Kelly missed a cracking opportunity just before half time, sending Kian Ryley's inviting cross well off target from near the back post.
The opening stages of the second half saw Spalding dominate, without creating many clear cut chances. The 73rd minute saw Liam Moore have a shot from distance well saved by Sporting stopper Rory Brown before the Spalding skipper's cross into the box clattered the crossbar four minutes later.
The opener came in the 84th minute, as a neatly lofted Kelly cross was expertly guided into the bottom corner via Benbow's head towards the back stick.
Ryley blazed a strike over in the third minute of added time before the second incredibly came eight minutes later, in the match's 101st minute - Willock capitalised on an undercooked backpass, which was followed by him rounding keeper Dan Wilks and slotting home, ensuring Sporting bagged a perhaps unlikely, yet richly warranted, three points.
