Romulus 0 (0) Bromsgrove Sporting 2 (2) at The Dominos Arena

Bromsgrove Sporting got their pre-season friendlies off to a good start with a deserved and useful win against Romulus in Sutton Coldfield writes Phil Baker.

There were several familiar faces on the pitch at the start along with new signings and a couple of trialists and although the Rouslers started the brighter of the two teams , it was seven minutes before they had a real chance with Kobe Hall going close followed by trialist B after a great pass up field by Bo Morris.

The first goal came just three minutes later with Hall turning well in the box and tapping home from a corner.

The second goal was scored on 13 minutes when trialist B made a run from the right and put his low shot into the corner of the Romulus net.

The home side rallied in the later stages of the half with a couple of shots that went wide but it was Sporting and in particular trialist B on the right wing who always looked more likely to score.

Manager Scott Adey-Linforth made eight changes at half-time and hardly surprising the style of play changed with a more direct approach rather than using the flanks as in the fist half. Luke Benbow and trialist C had the most chances for the away team but failed to find the net. Whilst at the other end Romulus had a better second period but never quite had the organisation and power up front to breach the Sporting back four though they nearly had the final word in the 88th minute when their forward broke though the defensive back line but substitute keeper Charlie McNamara made a valiant save in a one-to-one.

Wise men do not read too much in the first pre-season friendly but there were several good and competent performances from Sporting and the squad can be satisfied with a having a well-spent evening.
