Leiston 0
Bromsgrove Sporting 0
Bromsgrove Sporting were arguably unlucky not to send departing manager Paul Smith off with a win on Saturday afternoon, as the Rouslers drew 0-0 at Leiston.
The game's golden opportunity for a goal came in the 29th minute, via a Jamie Meddows penalty - unfortunately for the Sporting man, his effort was saved by keeper Billy Johnson.
After an early exchange of half chances between the sides, the first big opportunity came in the 18th minute, as Bromsgrove's Ethan Patterson got on the end of a free kick but could only send his header into Johnson's clutches.
Further chances came the visitors' way prior to the penalty. The 20th minute saw Meddows have a shot heroically blocked off the line after rounding Johnson, with big credit going to Burton-loanee Jack Newall for superbly setting up the chance.
Two minutes later, Theo Robinson made some space for himself and struck the ball just over the bar from just over 20 yards.
Sporting's spotkick was given for a handball offence; Meddows stepped up to take it, but Johnson palmed it away with a strong save to stop it from being bottom corner bound.
The prolific Jamar Loza had a strike blocked away by the head of Patterson in the 41st minute and the woodwork was clipped in the 43rd minute, as Sporting captain Luke Rowe's curled free kick from range brushed the top of the crossbar before going out.
Rowe had another free kick 13 minutes into the second half; this one was from a lot closer, but Johnson held it with relative ease.
Despite having more of the ball, chances were few and far between for the home side - their best opportunity of the game came in the 74th minute, as Ben Fowkes hit the side netting from inside the area.
Rowe's attempt to lob Johnson from close to 40 yards out in the 76th minute did not prove successful, whilst Reece King almost bagged all three points for Sporting in the sixth minute of added time, but his close range header went just wide of the target.
