For the second week running Sporting can count themselves somewhat fortunate to get a win after dominating much of the match but losing momentum at key moments.

Playing in overcast conditions despite the early kick-off, Cadburys riding high in Division One of the Midland Combination League should have gone ahead in the first minute when Stuart Butcher found himself with an open goal only to fire wide of the post.

Sporting though quickly sorted themselves out and using the long ball quite effectively started to trouble the home defence.

However on a break in the 17th minute Butcher again had a golden chance to give his team the lead only to fire wide.

Two minutes later Sporting were in the lead when a neat build-up found Mark Bellingham on the by-line; his well-placed pass into the box easily found Ricardo Richards who tapped home from 10 yards.

From then on Sporting really took control of the game. Rico Taylor making his debut supplied some good cross field passes whilst the two full-back Chris Duggan and Brett Mander kept their opposite numbers busy with good moves along the touch lines.

Sporting though could not increase their lead, despite Richards having a shot blocked on the line and Cadburys nearly putting one in their own net just before the interval.

After the break, the visitors again piled on the pressure in an attempt to get further ahead but the home defence played well and most attacks broke down before causing any risk.

The Rouslers though looked to be over-committing themselves up front and paid the price on the 68th minute when lively striker Anthony Clarke beat the off-side trap and raced up-field firing an unstoppable shot past Jake Bedford into the top corner of the Sporting net.

The Rouslers now looked to be short of ideas with passes going astray and their opponents hunting for the lead. However they got their Get Out of Jail card in the 80th minute when Mark Bellingham robbed Kenny Sanders a few yards in front of his goal. The 'keeper then tugged on to Bellingham's shirt pulling the striker over and giving referee Mr Rollason no option but to award a penalty and sending Sanders for an early bath. Bellingham duly converted the spot kick.

Cadburys played as well as they could for the remainder of the match without really threatening the Sporting net whilst the visitors risked little in protecting their lead though Bellingham and Lewis Clarke did have reasonable attempts at putting the game well beyond their hosts.

In summing up, Sporting manager, Adrian Mander said "it was not a very good match and we did not play that well but a win is win and we need to be grateful for that. Fair play to Cadburys who gave us a good game".
