At our game against Halesowen Town on New Year’s Day, midfielder Jack Newell played his 100th game for Sporting. At this weekend’s game vs Leiston, he will mark this special milestone with an award. Here, he reflects on the landmark…
“I’m pleased to reach 100 appearances for the club. The last month has been the most positive and enjoyable I’ve experienced to date, so a big thanks go to the fans, staff and players for making that possible,” Jack says.
Reflecting back on standout moments with the club, one goal stands out in particular for Jack, who is affectionately known as Chops…
“From a personal point of view, the FA Cup goal against Welwyn Garden City will always stand out as a big moment. The fact it proved to be pivotal in getting the club a good draw in the following round, against Grimsby in front of the BBC cameras, made it that bit sweeter.”
Looking ahead, Jack is excited about what the future holds, given the current form the club is in…
“As a team, the performances of late have been as good as any since joining the club, so being a part of that has been rewarding.
“We’ve built up a good run recently, so building on that is our main focus. We want to continue climbing away from the relegation zone, – it’s a tight league, so who knows where we can end up!”
Jack concludes with a message to our amazing fans…
“The fans are incredible. It’s been a frustrating few years for them, but even during the tough periods, they come out every week in their numbers and it really goes a long way.
“Hopefully we can continue winning games of football and give them a side they enjoy watching!”
From everybody at Sporting, congratulations Jack on reaching a century of appearances!
