We are sorry to report the passing of long-time Bromsgrove Rovers and Bromsgrove Sporting fan, Des Best, who was one of several people involved in setting up what was then the Bromsgrove Rovers Supporters Society (now the Bromsgrove Sporting Supporters Society).
At the time, he also volunteered around the Victoria Ground, helping out with various jobs
Des, who started watching Bromsgrove Rovers in the 1930s, said he wished he could have gotten to a few more fixtures over the last couple of years, but sadly mobility issues intervened.

He spent most of his working life at the Longbridge Car Factory, mainly as a draughtsman, and he always looked forward to his next visit to the Victoria Ground with his father back in the day.
He lived his final years living at the Chandler Court Care Home on Recreation Road, where his green and white Bromsgrove Rovers scarf took pride of place in his room – always hanging over the mirror.
Des’ wife Patricia sadly passed away in 2017 and he had three children – Andrew, Joanne and Ian, though Joanne unfortunately died in 2022. He also had grandchildren – Holly, Emily, Annabel, Alan and Francesca.
A one-minute silence was held at Sporting’s last match of the season, when we played Barwell on Saturday 26th April.
Des’ funeral will be at Redditch Crematorium, on Friday 24th May at 1:15 p.m.
One of our directors, who had known Des for many years, described him as a lovely man who will be missed by many.
Des Best. 24th April 1926 – 17th April 2024.
