COACHES’ CORNER: Tim Flowers Previews Leiston

Ahead of Saturday’s league match at Leiston (3:00 KO), manager Tim Flowers has looked at our opponents and preparations for the game. He starts by reflecting on last weekend’s postponement…

We were prepped and ready to go before last weekend’s postponed match and were coming into it off the back of a win, two draws and a defeat from the last four – the loss being to Real Bedford.

We have to keep battling – tomorrow we travel to Leiston, who have consistently been in the top half of the league all season. They score loads of goals and have plenty of attacking threats. Defensively, I think there are only four teams outside of the bottom four that have conceded more than them, so they’re an open side but, unfortunately for everybody else in the division, they score more than they concede.

I’ve seen Leiston’s last two games and they score goals for fun – it’s as simple as that.

We’re going to have to go there, be organised, be tough to beat, be strong, be resilient, be fit and be able to go to the end of the game. Clearly, it’s a long journey for us, but they have them every other week, so let’s not bleat about that.

I spoke to the boys after the training yesterday where, once again, they trained well. I went to Worcester versus Alvechurch on Tuesday in the Worcestershire Senior Cup – it probably won’t make any difference whatsoever to the games we face against them in the coming days because they both changed their teams quite substantially.

Billy Shaw came off with a hamstring in our last game against Stamford two weeks ago – he trained yesterday, but we may have to be cautious with him – we’ll see. Other than that, all the boys have reported in, trained and we’re good to go.

We’ve played plenty of away games since I’ve come back, but we go into three home games after this match – and every single game is a cup final for us. We’ve got to look to get something out of every game because, if we don’t, we could find ourselves in a world of trouble.

We’re going to go down there tomorrow and do our best for everybody at this club.
