Bromsgrove Sporting can announce that Iain Queen has been named as the club’s new Director of Football.
Iain takes over from Graham Scott, who will continue in his other role as Vice Chairman.
Iain has been an integral part of the fabric at Sporting for several years; most recently, he has operated as our Football Development Officer, working extensively to enhance the youth pathway at the club and, in particular, our new U21s side, which was launched last season.
Commenting on his new role, Iain said: “As I enter my fourth season at the club, I am delighted to take on the role of Director of Football at Bromsgrove Sporting.
I would like to thank the board for this opportunity and, in particular, Graham Scott, who has helped mentor me for this position over the past 12 months. Graham will continue in his role as Vice Chairman, and support the club with any football operations. His knowledge of non league football is second to none and I am delighted to have the opportunity to continue to work together over the coming years.
During my first year with Bromsgrove Sporting, I spent time working alongside many of the key departments across the club, helping to support the commercial, media, and safeguarding teams, whilst also learning the intricacies of the role of a club secretary. This time was invaluable in helping me understand the day to day operations of our club and lead me to take on a directors role on the board.
This past season, I was tasked with looking at our pathway across the whole football club. We are extremely lucky to have so many fantastic volunteers who work tirelessly for our youngsters, and we are fortunate to have such a strong structure in place with Alan Williams and Alan Horton operating the girls and women’s pathway and Jon Livesey and Richard Gladwin overseeing our Colts section at the club.
Mark Reeve and Stuart Carson were recruited as joint U21 managers for the 2024/25 season and, together alongside Pete Rose, have formed a strong management team who have put together a competitive group of lads. This team continues to grow and develop and we are constantly on the look out for the best talent in our local area. It was fantastic to see young players like Charlie McNamara, Bo Morris and Archie Thurston get first team opportunities last season and we hope for more breakthroughs in the future.
We currently have teams at Bromsgrove Sporting from Under 8s, all the way up to the adults first team, with the only gap in our pathway being a competitive floodlit team. This is something we are hoping to address in the future – however, with the UK Electrical Stadium being at its usage capacity, and a lack of availability in the Worcestershire area, this has so far provided difficult.
We do however have our exciting new partnership with Colmers School and Sixth Form College, where post-16 students will have to the opportunity to represent the club alongside completing their A-Levels. We are still taking applicants, so if anyone is interested then I encourage them to contact me at iain@bromsgrovesporting.co.uk
One thing I have learned during my time at the club is that football is always evolving, and in this crazy non league world, things can change in an instance. Just in my three years with Bromsgrove Sporting, I have worked alongside three chairmen and five managers! Players also have the freedom to move clubs and, whilst it is sometimes disappointing to lose our favourite or best players, we are always looking at and earmarking players for the future.
Scott Adey-Linforth came in at a difficult time last season and has made a great start to life as a manager. The off season is an extremely busy time for managers and I can assure you that Scott has been working tirelessly to put together a strong team for the new season.
With pre season fixtures only a couple of weeks away, I hope you feel recharged and excited for the season ahead!”
We hope you will join us in celebrating Iain’s news and wishing him well with it!
