Below is the latest round-up of the season featuring the freshest news from both our U21s and new U18s sides, from Matt Tennant…
U21s
Bromsgrove Sporting’s U21s had a weekend off last Saturday, meaning they will now take on Coventry Copsewood U21s under the lights at the UK Electrical Stadium tomorrow (Saturday 5th September – 7:45 KO) after the First Team’s home FA Cup game earlier in the day.
U18s
Bromsgrove Sporting U18s fell short in the FA Youth Cup, with a 5-2 loss at Leamington Spa.
The Rouslers had a slow start on Wednesday and were punished by a well-drilled Leamington side, who sniffed out any mistakes from their opponent and converted them into goals.
Bromsgrove’s Tom Henry and Cody Baker bagged their team two late goals but Leamington’s strong attacking presence ultimately pushed the home side out of Sporting’s reach.
Reflecting on the midweek outing, U18s manager Dave Andrewartha said: “At times, we played some really good football and got into some good areas, but we were just lacking that bit of quality in the final third and our end product.
“I couldn’t fault the effort from the lads or their desire to keep going, particularly after scoring two late goals. However, there are certain basics that we need to consistently do well, such as winning first and second contacts, tracking runners and competing to win those 50/50 duels.
“It was a great learning experience for us, and one that I’m sure we’ll take a lot from and use to improve.”
The team are back in action on Monday 7th September at The Dell Stadium where they’ll take on Kidderminster Harriers (7:45 KO).
