FA CUP: Third Round Qualifying – Chelmsford City Away

In the Third Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup, Sporting have been drawn away at Chelmsford City.

The tie will be played on Saturday 28th September (3pm KO).

Chelmsford play in the National League South (Step Two – one level above Bromsgrove).

They currently sit 16th in the league, with nine points from eight games. After a winless six-game opening spell (D3 L3), they have won 5-1 away at Maidstone (currently 17th) before beating Bath 3-0 (currently 15th) at home most recently.

They are on a three match winning streak in all competitions as, in the last round of the FA Cup, they won 2-0 at Step Four Tilbury.

Sporting played the Clarets at this stage of the competition last year; a 2-2 draw in Worcestershire resulted in a replay two days later, which the Essex-outfit won 3-0.

On this tie, manager Paul Smith commented: “We were obviously hoping for a home tie, but that wasn’t to be. We travel to National League South Chelmsford as huge underdogs, but I love that – we’ll go with a real freedom to express ourselves as a side and see what we can do.”
