COACHES’ CORNER: Gavin Hurren previews Lowestoft Town

Ahead of Saturday’s Pitching In Southern League Premier Central match, at home to Lowestoft Town (3:00 KO), manager Gavin Hurren has previewed the fixture, as well as reflecting on our most recent match and our four new signings…

“Looking at last weekend and Coalville was always going to be a tough place to go. They are second in the league for a reason and unbeaten at home. We were fully in the game for an hour and then mistakes cost us.

“But we’re a team collectively, we’re in it together and we just have to learn from it and move on. The lads need to keep their heads up and we need to keep believing. From the lads to the fans. We’ve got 15 games left – 15 finals and we’re going to give it our all. Simple as that.

“It’s been a busy week with signings. We’ve had to go out and recruit defensively. New recruit Dom Perkins can play in a couple of positions across the back. He’s strong, experience and somebody that, when you’re in the trenches, he stands up. I’m glad he’s on board and that we have people with the right mentality and professionalism around us.

We also have Toby Raison on loan, who is a fantastic prospect and is thought of highly at Hereford. I look forward to him stamping his authority on the team.

We’ve had to make these two additions, as Joel Kettle and Tom Taylor are both suspended for two games and we’re not too sure how long Cody Fisher will be with his knee injury – we hope it’s not too serious. Jack Newell is still out with injury and we’re waiting on the results of Miro Pais’ scan.

“I’m really excited to get Mitch Candlin involved. He brings that bit of quality into the final third and can play anywhere along the front.

“Last but no means least, Jon Letford. He’s proven and he’s a fantastic player. Always a threat whenever I’ve been involved in teams against him. He’s strong and he’s fantastic in the dressing room, which will be important towards the back end of the season.

“From tenth down to bottom, it’s very tight. We need to set up right and take it to Lowestoft. They are in a similar situation to us and every game will be a cup final to them too.

“I hope they and their fans have a safe journey and I’m looking forward to it.”
