LADIES AND VETERANS TEAMS: Seasons so far

The following is a look at how Bromsgrove Sporting’s ladies and veterans teams have been faring so far this season.

Ladies Team

The fourth game into the season saw the Ladies win 6-2 against Droitwich belles at the Victoria ground. This meant they remain unbeaten for the season so far. An impressive start has seen them win against Cradley Ladies, Areley Ladies, with an unlucky draw versus Wyre Forest. They lie second in the table and are playing Hereford today.

Manager Alan Horton commented: “There has been some impressive performances from our striker Alpha Wood, who is the league’s joint top scorer on nine goals, and solid defensive displays by captain Amy Kendall, which have given us a strong start. Well done ladies!”

VETERANS TEAM

Their season got under way with a tough opener away to Lions United. Sporting however started fast with some wonderful flowing football, which resulted in them taking an early lead. This then continued throughout the first half and two further goals saw Sporting go in at half time 3-0 to the good.

The second half started and Lions came out strong, but after the initial wave of pressure Sporting got back to playing football and a fourth goal hit the back of the net! Sporting would eventually run out 5-1 winners.

The following week Bromsgrove have their first home game of the season against Mile Oak Rovers and with the pitch looking fantastic Sporting got off to a flying start with some very dominant football and 10 minutes in Bromsgrove go 1-0 up. However, the game ended with Sporting’s first loss – 3-1.

Week three and Sporting were on the road against Solihull, who had won their opening two games and offered stiff opposition. Sporting turned up with all cylinders firing and completely dominated the game from the start, easing to a 4-1 victory, putting them second in the table.

Weeks four and five were unfortunately cancelled due to the weather, but Bromsgrove Sporting were in action again today, at home to Feckenham FC.

When both the Ladies are playing at the Victoria Ground, entry is free and the bar is open. If you want to know when the teams are playing, contact Alan Horton (Ladies) or Jonathan Hems (Veterans) on Facebook. Equally, if you tweet or message Sporting (@SportingFC) on Twitter, we can find out for you.

Congratulations to both teams on such positive starts!
