U21s SUMMARY: The Latest News

This article about our U21s side, from Matt Tennant, reflects on last weekend’s match and this Saturday’s fixture…

Bromsgrove Sporting U21s’ County Cup campaign came to an end last weekend, following the side’s 1-5 loss to AFC Kempsey.

The visiting Kempsey claimed a 0-1 lead before the end of the first half, as Sporting struggled to get themselves into the game.

Despite spells of positive play from the home side, AFC Kempsey capitalised on opportunities to find the net throughout the second half.

Bromsgrove’s afternoon improved after Alemi OB scored towards the end of the match but, with a four-goal lead, there was no catching the Herefordshire League side, who progress to the next round of the County Cup.

Bromsgrove Sporting U21s joint-manager, Mark Reeve, said: “I’m very disappointed to go out in the first round.

“Going behind midway through the first half, we recovered slowly and went into half time with plenty of positives to take into the second half.

“Straight from the break, another cross field pass looped over the keeper and ended up in the back of the net, setting the tone before we conceded shortly after.

“We changed the formation but to no avail – congratulations to AFC Kempsey.

“Heads need to be up, as we will go again, looking to bounce back in the league.”

This weekend, Bromsgrove Sporting return to the league and kick off November by visiting Diamond Academy U21s.

Diamond Academy are currently 18th in the league table on three points, while Bromsgrove sit in 14th on nine points.

The Birmingham based Diamonds unit have had a rocky start to their season, with eight out of nine league games resulting in a loss.

Their matchup against SJB Juniors U21 yielded Diamonds’ only win of the season, with a 0-2 win providing a much needed three points.

Although Bromsgrove U21s have also experienced more losses than victories, the team are four places above their upcoming opponent and boast a stronger win rate.

Bromsgrove Sporting U21s will face Diamond Academy U21 on Saturday, at Sandwell Falcons Football Club (10:30 KO).
