Below is the latest round-up of the season featuring the freshest news from both our U21s and new U18s sides, from Matt Tennant…
U21s
Bromsgrove Sporting U21s pushed to their fourth home victory this season, after a stirring second half comeback against Redditch United U21s.
The Reds snatched the first strike of the game, holding Sporting to a 0-1 deficit until the break.
Bromsgrove shrugged off the pressure and emerged reinvigorated in the second half, to present a more active attacking threat.
Josh Long inspired his side’s resurgence by equalising almost immediately after the break, with Jack Cooke and Zak Parr following up with a goal apiece to get the job done against the local rival.
“A great performance – particularly in the second half,” said Under 21s manager, Stuart Carson.
“The lads took on board all instructions at half time and controlled the second half.
“We keep pushing and face a difficult away fixture at Pelsall this week looking to build on our good start.”
Bromsgrove are on 21 points and remain one of two unbeaten teams, alongside top dogs Sutton United U21s, who they trail by three points – still with a game in hand.
The Under 21s are set to face Pelsall Villa Colts U21 this Saturday (17th October) at Long Lane Park (10:30 KO)
U18s
On Wednesday, Bromsgrove Sporting’s Under 18s treated fans to an entertaining contest with Boldmere St Michaels, which ended in a breathtaking 3-3 draw.
Bromsgrove showed their attacking threat throughout the match, scoring three goals through a brace from George Andrewartha and a strike from Sam Dunkley. However, despite leading 2–0 and later 3–2, they were ultimately forced to settle for a share of the points.
Under-18’s joint-manager, Dave Andrewartha described the clash as ‘a fantastic advert for Under 18s football’, with both sides showcasing plenty of quality, attacking intent and determination.
He described ‘ball retention, defensive organisation and attacking play’ as all positive takeaways, but acknowledged his side’s need to be more consistent when competing for first balls.
“Despite the frustration of letting the lead slip on two occasions, a draw was a fair reflection of an evenly contested encounter,” he said.
The Under 18’s will return on Monday 19th October when they welcome Malvern to UK Electrical Stadium in the League Cup (7:45 KO).
