LADIES

  • A disappointing day at the office for the Ladies on Sunday, which saw them knocked out of the FA Cup. Sporting started the game brightly and on the front foot, standing up to the challenge of a strong Hednesford side. After this, Hednesford got ahead with a good strike on half an hour. A second was added just before half time. A slow start to the second half saw Sporting concede three goals in the first 10 minutes. Sporting did get a goal back when Elloise Russell sent Amy Goodison away down the left, who was then brought down by the defender in the penalty area. Amy picked herself up to fire the penalty in to make it 5-1. Two late goals sealed the victory for Hednesford.
  • The Ladies turn their focus back to league action this Sunday, as they travel away to Kingfisher.

LADIES DEVELOPMENT

  • Hereford Pegasus Ladies Devs 1 – 1 Bromsgrove Sporting Devs. Bromsgrove started strong and dominated the first 10 minutes of the game with a number of shots on target. Unfortunately, each shot was played into the hands of the Pegasus’ keeper. After an unlucky switch of play, Hereford Pegasus took a wild shot from just outside the box which landed nicely under the cross bar and in the back of the net. Despite the Sporting midfield frequently playing fantastic through balls, they we were unable to convert any shots – with ball after ball finishing comfortably in their keeper’s hands. In the second half, a perfectly placed through ball to Ellie saw her take on the keeper one on one, but it wasn’t to be as the shot rolled the wrong side of the post. It was with 10 minutes left on the clock that Lucy found the ball at her feet and took a shot from 25 yards out. The ball was perfectly aimed and lobbed the keeper, slotting nicely in the back of the net. Both teams continued to battle hard to take the win, but the game eventually finished 1-1 with the points being shared.

GIRLS

Last weekend saw the start of the season for the girls section at Sporting, featuring lots of new faces in all of the teams!

  • U9s: They had their first home league game of the season last weekend, in front of a packed out Braces Lane Stadium against Newtown. Goals from Blayke, Melissa and Chloe, along with clean sheets for Melissa and Amelie helped them get the win. Thanks to Rosie who captained the side really well and well done to Isla for bagging the Girl of the Game award on her debut.
  • U10s: It was a trip to Droitwich last weekend.
  • U11s: The U11s visited Inkberrow last weekend – sadly their scheduled game against Drakes Broughton was cancelled after they withdrew from the league. The time off showed as the girls started so slowly that, unsurprisingly, they found themselves on the back foot.
  • U14s: Last weekend, they faced a tricky fixture away at Worcester City and lost 3-0. They had their usual goalkeeper unavailable so were very grateful that Olivia was willing to step up and go in goal for them – she certainly didn’t look like a midfielder playing in goal, she held the ball well and put a couple of fantastic saves in. Congratulations also go to player of the match Emilia, who had a very classy performance in the number 10 role today. This weekend, they faced Kingfisher Youth away.
  • U18s: They played against top of the table Lane Head Galaxy and shocked them by going into a 2-0 half time lead, thanks to goals from Evie and Faith – however they went on to lose 4-2. Another tough game awaited this weekend, away at Coundon Court.
