Bromsgrove Sporting's League Cup journey ended at the Second Round on Tuesday evening, with a 2-1 defeat away to Coalville Town.

A Greg Mills penalty just shy of the half hour mark gave Sporting the lead, before a Tim Berridge double, courtesy of a goal on the stroke of the half time and another 76 minutes in, ensured the Leicestershire outfit would claim the spoils.

Both teams enjoyed chances inside the first 10 minutes, with Berridge putting a one on one wide from 10 yards out that he really should have scored, whilst Shaquille McDonald took the ball around the keeper and shot from an acute angle at close range, but had it cleared off the line.

Adam McGurk hit a 25 yard belter narrowly wide on the 26th minute, but the deadlock would finally be broken three minutes later.

It was firmly against the run of play, but Mills was judged to have been brought down in the area, which he followed up by smacking the resultant spot kick into the corner with venom.

The equaliser came a minute into additional time; a Kalern Thomas shot from inside the box was well saved by Jono Brown. but Berridge was on hand to comfortably slot in the rebound.

The second half was a fairly turgid affair, with free flowing football at a premium from both sides. A rare touch of quality in the opening 30 minutes of the half was a curling effort from edge of area from the left boot of Will Shorrock that was tipped over the bar by Sean Bowles.

Berridge got his second and the match winner 14 minutes from time. He won the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box, allowing him to produce a low left footed effort into the bottom corner with a touch of class.

Both team's had chances to add to the scoresheet thereafter, with Sporting's Mills and Coalville's Jay Doyle-Charles having shots saved by their opposing goalkeepers, but it would be the Ravens that would qualify for the next round.
