Bromsgrove Sporting 1 (Shaw 82′)
Bromsgrove Sporting made it an incredible eight wins in a row on Saturday afternoon, courtesy of a 1-0 FA Trophy victory at Racing Club Warwick.
Despite being far from their best, the Rouslers found a way to ground out yet another win, as Billy Shaw’s 82nd minute goal proved to be the difference between the two sides.
The first half was fairly low on chances; the extremely lively Jude Collins had three decent opportunities for the home side, which included one that hit the woodwork and another hit straight at Sporting stopper Tony Breeden.
For Bromsgrove, the best chance fell the way of Lamin Barrow, who struck the ball directly at Racers keeper Tom Allsopp.
The 59th minute saw Aaron Opoku beat a couple of men before shooting narrowly wide for the home side; 10 minutes later, Billy Shaw had the ball in the back of the net but it was ruled out for a handball offence.
The winner came with eight minutes of normal time remaining – a Chris Hussey free kick that was well saved led to a corner, from which pressure in the box resulted in Shaw tapping in.
It wasn’t the prettiest of goals to decide the tie, but the Sporting faithful were far from bothered, breaking out into scenes of unbridled celebration.
