LADIES & VETERANS TEAMS: Results And Fixtures

The following is an update on Sunday’s results for our Ladies and Veterans Teams, plus news of both of their respective next fixtures.

LADIES TEAM

  • The Ladies lost 2-1 at home to Malvern Town Ladies. The match report below is by Sam Ross.

2nd vs 3rd in the Midwest Counties Female Football League and the scrappiness and closeness of the game reflected how evenly the two sides were matched.

Both sides struggled to find there passing rhythms in the first half, with Malvern slightly on top. Tash Jones was particularly physical, winning lots of headers and challenges in defensive midfield for Malvern.

Malvern’s pressure and mild dominance proved fruitful when Alice Meadows opened the scoring. Following that, clear cut chances were few and far between in the first half, as Bromsgrove were penned back in their own half.

Bromsgrove dug deep though and came very close to scoring twice at the end of the first half. After a mix up in the Malvern defence, a beautiful cross was nearly headed in by Alpha Wood. Sophy Howard then hit the post just before 45 minutes.

In the second half, Bromsgrove came out fighting and Wood scored three minutes into the second half. She went off injured shortly afterwards.

In the second half, like the first, possession was about equal and scoring opportunities were hard to come by for both sides. A creative player to take control of the game or a lucky break for one of the sides was what was needed to swing the game.

That luck came in the 83rd minute when an own goal came from a perfectly weighted Malvern corner, meaning Malvern ran out 2-1 winners.

Reflecting on the game, Bromsgrove manager Alan Horton commented: “I thought Bromsgrove were very unlucky today and a draw would of been a fair result. But, all in all, the ladies played well. We had chances to win the game and an own goal was unfortunately the outcome of the game. A great advert for Ladies Football and well done Malvern.

  • The Ladies are in action this weekend (6th March), as they travel to Meadow Park Ladies (2:00 KO).

VETERANS TEAM

  • It was a cracking 2-0 win for the Vets on Sunday (27th February) against Coles Lane in the Semi Final of the League Cup – through to the final they go.
  • The Veterans are playing at the Victoria Ground this Sunday (6th March) against Northfield Town (10:30 KO).
