Our most recent home game, against AFC Telford United, coincided with International Women’s Day (8th March) and we marked the day with a range of celebrations and activities.
The day saw entry for women reduced to half price, whilst tickets for girls under 16 were free. Girls from various Sporting youth teams walked out with the players before the start of the game and, at half time, a huge group of those girls, along with players from our Ladies and Ladies Development sides, did a lap of honour around the pitch to celebrate their achievements and symbolise just how huge, and important, female football is at Sporting!
The club was honoured to have Bromsgrove Council chair Sam Ammar as a guest, who joined in with the celebrations before the game and watched the match, which finished 1-1, from the stands.
An all-female music playlist was a great accompaniment to what was a brilliant day, which saw over 1000 people in attendance.
Ladies Team captain Amy Kendall commented: “It was great to be a part of International Women’s Day and have the womens and girls teams recognised in front of a big crowd, on what turned out to be a lovely sunny day.
“We hope that this will encourage more people to come and watch us on a Sunday at our home games, as well as promote the football pathway for girls at Bromsgrove Sporting.
Ladies Development Team captain Becky Meah added: “International Women’s Day at Bromsgrove Sporting was a great event to be part of. It was great to see women and girls of all ages come together to celebrate women’s football, but also standing strong as a community.
“A standout moment for me was the Under 13s goalkeeper’s mom telling me that I inspire her daughter and how much she looks up to me, which really shows how much of a great club we have.”
Bromsgrove Sporting have recently added a new page to our website, detailing everything you need to know about female football at Sporting, including the club’s vision, pathway, and contact details of people involved.
