COACHES’ CORNER: Tim Flowers Previews Barwell

Ahead of Saturday’s league match at home to Barwell (3:00 KO), manager Tim Flowers has looked at our opponents and given an update on a player departure, another going out on loan and possible incomings. He starts with reflecting on our most recent match…

We came up against, without a shadow of a doubt, the best footballing team in the league on Tuesday – Real Bedford were absolutely outstanding and, sometimes, you’ve just got to accept it, as they’ve been good all season. They’re sitting third, with games in hand, because some of their play is of a very high level and some of their players are as well.

I thought our lads worked tirelessly to try and keep them at bay – we had good travelling support down there and they were right behind the lads, encouraging them at half time and at the end and it was absolutely brilliant to see, so I thank the people very much for their support and I think, to a man, Bedford were as good as they’d seen in this division and the lads said the same as well.

Gus Sanches was the subject of a seven day approach and he’s decided to leave and we wish him well, whilst Kobe Hall has joined Shifnal Town on a one month-loan, who we also wish well.

It is a really difficult job at the moment and getting people in isn’t easy. We’re looking at getting some young lads through the door on loan, with at least one to be announced later tonight.

Getting experienced lads to come in now is proving difficult – we’re working tirelessly and I think everybody at the club knows how hard we’re working to bring one or two new faces in.

Tomorrow, we welcome Barwell, under Jimmy Ginnelly, who’s really streetwise and savvy. He’s got good coaching staff around him and it’s going to be a really difficult game. I’ve seen bits of them and got reports on them – they’re big and strong, have good mobility in areas that can hurt you, with the likes of Kaine Richards, Tyree Wilson and Tyrell Waite.

Jimmy always comes up with a player out the blue or rotates it around, so it’s hard to know which shape they’ll go with and which personnel they’ll go with but, in the end, it’s 11 vs 11 and we’ve got to try and front up and win the game.

This season, with the teams towards the bottom, I think it’ll go down to the wire. Nobody is going to relegated too early and they’ll be lots of twists and turns – sometimes, it’s about who stays calm in the chaos as to who may come out on the right side of it.

I’ve been in the building four weeks and it’s been a tough transition – players have left and an unbelievable amount of phone calls have gone in to players that have decided not to go – and, ultimately, it’s their prerogative.

Hopefully, very soon, we can turn this club around from being habitually at the foot end of this division.
